Kennel cough - UPDATE
I think my little girl has kennel cough We boarded her last weekend and she has been hacking for the past few days. She definitely has had all of her shots so I don't know what to do - online it said the symptoms usually clear on their own but I feel so bad for her
I took her to the vet tonight. She has a rare strain of kennel cough that is resistant to the vaccine. The vet said he has seen 3 dogs in the past few days, all who were boarded at the same kennel, who have come in with this cough. She had a 103.5 fever (normal for dogs is 101 I think he said). So he gave her a shot of medicine and a prescription. I can also give her robitussin LOL...awww

Re: Kennel cough
sophie had terrible kennel cough when we first adopted her from the shelter. unfortunately, it's a virus so there aren't any meds that will help. treatment is just supportive. i would keep a close eye on her fluid intake, because she may get dehydrated and need fluids from the vet.

Re: Kennel cough
Our dog has this now (started last Monday)...she kept hacking (almost honking) and trying to throw up the phlegm...
Take to the vet so that she can get on antibiotics...we're on clavomax....symptoms get better after three or so days.
Good luck.

Re: Kennel cough
Taking the dog into a steamy bathroom will help a little.

Re: Kennel cough
Did your pup get the Kennel cough shot within 10 days of going to the kennel?
Kennel cough definitly needs medicine so take your pup to the vet. It will clear up in a few days but I waited a week or so before I took my pup (I thought it was just a cough) and it got so horrible. Uncontrollable snot pouring out of his little nose. He was miserable. So don't wait. Go to the vet ASAP.

Re: Kennel cough
I called the vet earlier and Casey had the shot back in February. I have an appt for her tonight..poor thing, when I went home at lunchtime I had to make her drink some water. She didn't even want to get out of her bed!
