Keratin?

I have super curly hair and lately (I am thinking since I had my kids) my hair has been extremely knotty and unmanageable. I don't like to wash it everyday (because it's dry) but if I don't, it gets so knotty and frizzy. I was wondering if a keratin treatment would work for me. I don't want to straighten it per se, just make the curls look better. Is a keratin treatment what I would do? Has anyone with super curly hair tried this? Thank you for any input!

Keratin?

I have super curly hair and have done the Keratin. It makes my hair straight. It goes back to being curly but for a month my Hair is almost pin straight.

Re: Keratin?

You might have to just try it and see because everyone's hair reacts differently to it.

I have gotten it a few times. My hair is moderately curly and it does not take out all the curl for me even in the beginning, which is fine with me, as I like a little wave. I just want the frizz gone.

My caveat to that is that I have had issues recently with the keratin not working well at all. My stylist recently had to reapply a stronger version in certain spots and it helped but it still doesn't do what I think it should do. So I might not be the norm.

The only other person I know who has it and whose "before" hair I know is my DSD and it didn't make her hair pin straight either but her hair is very curly.

Thank you for sharing. I want to take the plunge, but I have no knowledge about what might happen...

Keratin?

I have not gotten it done in a couple of years since I had my DS but I used to LOVE it. It took out all the frizz, cut my blowdrying time and even looked nice if I let it air dry. My mom does it as well. Her hair is insanely thick and curly and its the only way for her to keep it manageable. I am not sure it will let you keep your curls though. I think it would straighten them a bit but not make it pin straight

Re: Keratin?

I've gotten it done and it made absolutely no difference in my hair. It wasn't any straighter, didn't dry and faster, wasn't any shinier. NOTHING.

But according to the girl who did it, everyone reacts differently. I don't think it can hurt. The worst that could happen is that it won't do anything.

That's true! Years ago (when I was young and not too smart) I had my hair bleached and then had the Japanese straightening done. I will never forget the woman trying to tell me NOT to do it because it would ruin my curls. I cried so much after that (my hair was FRIED). I never got my curls back the same way. I am just afraid of that situation, but I know that this is completely different.

Re: Keratin?

I do have very curly and kinky medium length hair and had Keratin done in September: it CHANGED my life!!

I kept my hair curly (you can do keratin at different strengths, it does not have to become straight) but the treatment took out the kinks and the freeze and left me with beautiful soft manageable curls!

I only wish I got it done years ago!

That is GREAT to know! I used to have beautiful curls, and now it's just a frizzy mess. I am definitely going to look into this. Thank you!

Re: Keratin?

Message me if you like. I do keratins where I work. There are soooo many brands and each does something a but different and also how it's applied and processed. Not all "keratins" are equal ?? But yes over time it fades and grows out seamlessly unlike Japanese straightening

You are so right! My hairdresser offers me 3 different ones every time I have it done. 3 different "levels" and price points. I usually go mid-level/price; which lasts about 3 months. My hair is naturally "wavy", but not in a good way...more in the frizzy/annoying way. Keratin treatments have truly changed my life. Made it much easier for me to do my hair every day, but didn't "change" the hair so to speak.

Yes, I think that I just have to go and check out my options. I know there are many which makes it so confusing!

Omg. Anyone with any kind of highlights should never get a Japanese relaxer, it will just break the hair off and any good stylist knows this and would never perform this service on highlighted hair.
