Re: Kids and school

My soon to be 9th grader is hoping that she can stay home for her entire HS experience and go straight to college. She loved the independence that distance learning afforded her. She did really well and was thoroughly engaged with all her subjects so for her distance learning works. I would like her to experience the non academic side of HS. She is a very outgoing and social child but loves learning at her own pace and being independent.

My son will be going into 6th grade in September. We have discussed that our school may suggest a hybrid situation and he has said if he has to wear a mask and he is not in the same "pod" as his friends then he would rather stay home and distance learn. He is also very athletic and plays several sports and if school is open and sports and gym class are taken away then he will feel that loss more than if he was learning from home.

Re: Kids and school

My son is 11, so it won’t traumatize him to see masks or “social distance”. The three months at home added with the 2 months at home because he couldn’t go to camp has been traumatic enough for him. It’s effected:

- His Speech (Which wasn’t an issue before)

- He was already behind before, so now it’s x2

- All progress we made with him focusing and structure has gone out the window. We will have to start over again with another plan.

He wants school and I know he needs it.

Obviously I’m the odd man out, but I think my kids will be really unhappy.

My older understands the rules but after being in “normal” school for 5+ years, I think she’ll be upset to basically have to sit in the same seat for 6 hours and not interact with anyone. Her best friend could be sitting across the room every day and she is never able to speak to her.

My little one I think will be terrified. She had a hard time adjusting last year to a normal FUN school year. This will be the complete opposite.

Where in the guidelines does it say that children will never be allowed to speak to each other?
