But that's not my problem - I don't have to change my lifestyle to suit other people's ignorance. Mothers have the right to feed their children wherever and whenever they please. Teaching behaviors like this at a young age just make it more difficult down the road.
I think you are out of line JME78 by calling other people ignorant. Who are you to make that judgment upon anyone! Maybe you are the ignorant one because you can't see beyond your own self and beliefs!
Its not a belief - its a FACT. We have breasts to feed babies. If people are uncomfortable with that then they are ignorant. I firmly believe that. I am not saying everyone has to breastfeed but this is not something anyone should have a problem with.

I know it's seems extreme but it's the same concept when you think about it? You cant feed a baby that hasn't been made and how does that happen? Lol
And the fact that you think it's ok to compare breastfeeding an infant to sexual intercourse shows that people really need to be educated on breastfeeding.

As a parent I don't want MY child pulling his/her shirt regardless of the reason. I have reasons for it and that's my perspective on privacy. Not every parent is ok with this, why is that hard to understand? And it has nothing to do with BF. I find it disgraceful that somehow bc of that same word in the subject people have to come out guns blazing ...preaching ...pointing fingers... calling others ignorant bc Of different choices and such and for not having the same beliefs when it comes to feeding a child!!!!! What year is this!!! I'm a woman that has choices and I'm not ignorant bc I don't want to use my breasts to feed my child and I'm certainly not ignorant bc I don't want To teach my four yr old about a choice that she won't have to make until she is 20 to 30 yrs into her future....and guess what? MY breasts aren't for feeding......three children later never were and never will be and that doesn't make me ignorant or less of a woman or less of a Mother ....so please can the name calling and holier than thou judgement stop on a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with bf choices but about a school setting and a teachers job to keep children safe and secure
Exactly and it's also like saying that the purpose of women is to have babies and give birth. What if you your daughter grows up to not want to have babies? Not everyone including your child will grow up to feel this way regardless of what views you shove down their throats.
This is about a school setting and your child not being the ONLY one in the class. It's about being respectful to other people's views, not being ignorant to the fact that other people may not see it how you do?
Eta: the teacher did nothing wrong. And I still stand by the OP was maybe being a little sensitive.
Regardless of views one chooses to "shove down" a child's throat, it doesn't change THE FACT that BREASTS are for BREAST FEEDING BABIES! And our culture is one if the few that has such trouble with this concept. Regardless of whether you "believe" women should or shouldn't breastfeed, doesn't change the science behind it.
So maybe if EVERYONE taught their children the PROPER use for female breasts, threads like this wouldn't even need to exist. If young children viewed breastfeeding as the NORMAL WAY a mother feeds a baby, maybe they would even grow up to breastfeed or support their breastfeeding partners. 
I'm sorry but I'm too busy trying to keep my son from scratching/touching his balls every 5 seconds in public the last thing I'm going to teach him right now is breast are just for feeding.
And to be honest god forbid an adult comes up to him and wants to shove her breast in his face, I don't want him to think it's ok. Private parts are private at this point. I know it sounds sick but molestation is very real to me. And this is how I choose to raise my kid.

And people wonder why Breastfeeding moms get defensive...
So now teaching children about breastfeeding leaves them vulnerable to molestation from adults or their friends.
And breastfeeding, like intercourse, should be a private activity.

You are taking it that way, that I'm seeing them one in the same. People want to start talking biology and what's natural as their argument until you start mentioning penis and sexual intercourse.
It was said over and over a female has breast for feeding. My son body part is the penis and I stated the purpose of it. How come it's ok to keep yelling "breast are for
Feeding " but I can't talk about the purpose of my sons body part??

Calm down. Yes, breasts can feed a baby. Message received. We know that. But in today's society, breasts have a dual purpose. One is for breastfeeding and one is indeed sexual. I think the point the PP made about sex originally just being for procreation and now also being sexual is a perfect comparison. You can't be naive enough to think that a 4 year old raising her shirt in class is ok because an adult feeding her baby is ok. They are not the same.

I'm troubled by the use of the word purpose to describe the sexual attribution to breasts.
Penises and vaginas have sexual purposes. Breasts may be sexually appealing, but they have no purpose that relates to sex. Just because they feel good when touched, and may cause arousal, doesn't mean they have a sexual purpose.
I get aroused when a lover kisses my back. But my back doesn't have a sexual purpose.

A boy in my son's kindergarten class pulled up his shirt to show off his temporary Iron man tattoo.
He was told to pull his shirt down by the teacher, because it was not appropriate to do at school.
So, the same rule applies to boys and girls. Keep your clothing on, and intact, at school. It does not matter if you are imitating mom nursing, or showing off a cool tattoo.
i doubt the little girl in the OP will be "shamed" out of nursing in public some day because she was told not to do it in school. Also, I doubt my sons classmate will be keeping his shirt on at a beach someday due to his being "shamed" to pull his shirt down in kindergarten by his teacher.

And BTW no one on this thread said breast feeding is bad and you should hide it.
Everyone just said that they either wouldn't want their child simulating this behavior at all or may be not in school. Why is that so babd?? Why does that make a person all of a sudden against breast feeding. Which I totally am not.

If we want to bring science into it and the fact that we are mammals and "meant to Breastfeed" then don't leave anything out....yes breasts have the ability to feed a child but just like other mammals in order to find others to mate with mammals send off calls, scents, some walk with a certain stature sometimes pushing their chests out to stand out and make the male species want to mate and procreate .....did we forget this part of science when it comes to humans? As Humans going back to cavemen times, we also use different ways to find a mate/partner and guess what kids? For a lot of women they may use breasts for sexual purposes gasp!! To mate/procreate just like our mammalian counterparts

I just don't even get how this is a bf thing
If my 4 yr old comes home and starts bf a doll I would ask where she learns that (I didn't bf,worst mother ever)
If she said school. I would ask the teacher
I would not tell her it's wrong. I would say that's how some mommies feed the babies But I don't expect my 4 yr old to learn about bf from preschool
And I don't think it's be teachers job to explain
I think the teacher would say ask your mom/dad etc then explain the history of breasts
I feel like this went into a debate over things not even first started

Well that's a different discussion, but the short answer is because society has sexualized breasts. I'm not saying that breasts don't have a sexual CONNOTATION, I'm saying they serve no sexual PURPOSE. There's a big difference.

Exactly. If there was no sexual component to breasts, why are strip clubs in business??? Men pay to see women topless.
Breasts serve multiple purposes, just like a women's privates serve multiple purposes: peeing, birthing a baby, intercourse.
Women can BF in public til their boobs fall off, won't change society's view of breasts being sexual.

Again, I never said breasts don't have sexual connotations. They do, because our society decided they do.
I said breasts serve no sexual PURPOSE. And they don't. The PURPOSE of women having breasts is to breastfeed.

But in my daughters pre school class it also needs to be respected that I don't want her learning it's ok to lift up your shirt

ok ya got me i didn't exactly know what bf was until I saw this NOW I totally think YES ALL four year olds should have how to breastfeed courses that come in between snack time and storytime and every four year gets a medela pump to take home
