Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

I am Upstate and have the choice of Hannaford, Price Chopper and Walmart.

I won't buy meat or produce at Walmart, I don't know if it's just the one near me, but the 'fresh' stuff always looks nasty.

Price Chopper is a sale/coupon store, they have big sales that usually coorespond with the coupons that are put out that week in the paper, but the every day prices are higher.

Hannaford doesn't have major sales (they have sales, but not the buy one get one free stuff) and the everyday prices are lower.

I am not willing to go to 2 or 3 stores to do my shopping, not worth my time or the gas, I also don't only buy what is on sale - I buy what we eat/need. So I go to Hannaford. I find I spend the least here over the long run.

I live in MI so this is what is local for us.....Kroger if there are good sles and coupons, but mostly Meijer...They have better prices, however, Krogers w/the card and coupons or the 10/10 can't be beat!

I've heard a lot about Walmart. Never shopped there before.. but went online and found one that is 3 miles away.. I will def try shopping there now!!!

Thanks for all the input ladies!!! Unfortunately no trader Joes near me. I like to buy Organic meat and eggs.. so Waldbaums and Stop and shop for my meats and organic stuff

BJ's, Waldbaums and Stop and Shop. It depends on the sales at Waldbaums and Stop and Shop that week.

We shop at Harris Teeter because with the VIP card it is a huge savings. Tried the Super WalMart but hate buying bulk.

Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

I live in Florida and we do our shopping every other sunday. The first thing we do is check the paper for sales and cupon but usually we first go to super walmart, than target (for detergent, toilet paper etc is cheaper) and meat and little stuff at Publix

Waldbaums because I love their produce aisle and sometimes Stop and Shop because it's close by.

Honestly, we chose convienience over bargains at this point. It's just the two of us, and we are doing ok right now.

DH goes to Stop & Shop b/c it is on his way home from work. We dont'cut couons, but we have the card.

If they are out of something (usually meat or produce) he goes to Whole Foods, b/c is around the corner form Stop & Shop.

Occasionaly we go to A & P for an item or two, which is pretty much the same as Waldbaums.

Traders Joes by me has hardly any produce ever & nor enoughs taples & Walmart was complete chaos the 1 time we went, so we never go there.

I think Pathmark near us is cheapest, but it's gross.

We will get some dry goods in Target if we are there for something else, but you have to pay for parking, so we don't make a special trip.

My in-laws rave about Costco, but we don't have the need or room to buy & store things in bulk.

Stop and Shop. Every once in awhile we take the trip out to Whole Foods and do our shopping there.

I shop at Target for diapers, wipes, cleaners, etc.

Food I buy from Stop and Shop or Sherry's in Babylon Village. I only shop there because they sell organic.

I think Shop Rite has the best prices in general though.

Shoprite for me and i cut coupons every Sunday and use them for everything from cleaning supplies to dog bones. If an item goes on sale and i have a coupon for it thats a bonus. I find that Shoprite has the best prices. King Kullen is so close to my house but SO overpriced. If i run for something quick, i will run to King Kullen but if i am doing a weeks worth, i go to shoprite which is a town away from me.

Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

Trader Joes - I find they have better quality foods. And their prices are great.

Walmart - for Frozen Items, and canned goods - same thing, prices are great.

And King Kullen - Cause it is up the block!

I also check flyers and go where things are on sale, Pathmark, Walbaums, etc.

Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

Stop and Shop. It's new, clean, organized and has great sales (plus Starbucks!)
Waldbaums is closer but it's dark, dirty and disorganized.
King Kullen was pricey and the layout was so confusing. They also didn't have a lot of what we buy.

We do buy things at Target if we're there and they're on sale.
Wal-Mart is hopeless - the shelves are never stoked, and it's always a mess.

I live @ Johns Farms for meats, veggies fish & fruits. Even cheeses . Their prices CANNOT be beat. Yea its insane there but id rather save $100 than spend it @ waldbaims getting ripped off..

Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

Stop and Shop

King Kullen

Whole Foods

Uncle Guiseppe's

Meat Farms

...it depends on what I'm looking for and what mood I'm in. I like KK because it is smaller and very easy to find things - so when I'm not looking to do major shopping and just want to get in and out I like going there. I go to S&S for the majority of stuff - the prices are good and I like the store by me - clean and whatnot. My Mom has a ShopRite near her that is great and I would go there but it is just a little too far for me. I go to WF for anything organic that I need and cannot get at S&S. I like Uncle Guiseppe's a lot too for seafood and meats! They are great!! That and Meat Farms if I need great meat.

Stop & Shop, because it's the closest one to me (I can walk there if I wanted to) and I also like that it's stocked and CLEAN!

while I live all the way in port jeff, I go to my mom's in dix hills and then go food shopping with her at fairway in plainview.... nothing like a gourmet grocery store with reasonable prices. we're so spoiled munching on exotic cheeses and tons of organic foods Chat Icon

never mind how much I spend Chat Icon , it's all for the love of food Chat Icon

Re: Kind of a spin off: WHAT SUPERMARKET DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHY

I make my rounds every sunday..start at Trader Joes (there are items that can't be found elsewhere at great prices), then Shop Rite (there are 2 near me and I know who has what that I need and where to find it now) and if I need an unusual item, I'll go to Fairway...some of their prices are better than the other two places! Some items I KNOW are better at Target, so I'll wait to make a trip there to get them...

Stop and Shop, because its up the block.

Target, because I am in there at least once a week and the prices are much cheaper than the supermarket.

Costco, big trip for stock ups at least once a month.

Stop and Shop or Pathmark...they are far cheaper than Waldbaum's or King Kullen.

Usually though we'll go to Costco to stock up on meat and non-perishable staples.

We also love Trader Joe's --DH is a foodie and loves to try differnt things from there.
