Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
I desperately want to redo our kitchen and we need new cabinets and countertop, etc. I figured we could do the cabinets ourselves and have someone come and do the countertop...has anyone done this and anyplace you recommend for buying the cabinets or having someone come to do the countertops? We haven't looked into prices yet but if it's going to be REALLY expensive I don't know if we will be able to do it...thanks!

We did a couple of kitchens at home depot. They delivered the cabinets and we installed ourselves

Were they in stock items or custom? How were their prices?

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
They were pretty reasonable. They are stock in the sense that the manufacturer makes certain sized cabinets but we didn't have any issue. The cabinets come directly from the mfg.
THey come out an meausre they charge 150 for that but if you order the cabinets from them you get the 150 off your cabinet order. You sit down with them and they do a computer design of your kitchen.

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
The style lately for kitchen cabinets is regular paint. We had a professional paint out cabinets an espresso color to match the color of our wood in the our home and it came out PERFECT. He did all the bathrooms and cabinets in the kitchen perfectly... FM me if you want pictures. (I'm too lazy to take a pic right now )

Danielle and I just ordered sold wood cabinets made in the US from them. We are paying half of what Family kitchens in Bethpage wanted. We are getting a medium nutmeg color with black glaze.
We are also getting the granite from him - they had the best price
Their store front is in Huntington station. The guys name is John.
Rachael - also bought her cabinets there and she already has hers. Scott

There site has some great stuff...I feel really dumb when it comes to trying to figure out what we want/need. The way our kitchen is set up now we only have like three upper cabinets because our kitchen has 4 windows. There is another wall that has nothing that I would like to do all cabinets and maybe a countertop. How did you guys know what to buy and how to set it up if you weren't just re-doing what was already there? Does he help you with that?

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
This is what we did.
We measured the kitchen - It was completely gutted, so it was easy.
Then we went there and he created a layout for us according to our measurements
Then we decided on a cabinet and approved his layout
Last week he came by to remeasure - to make sure we were correct
Next step is for us to approve the color samples.
Then the order goes in for our cabinets.

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
I bought the cabinets at Consumers (kraftmaid) and installed ourselves and then had someone in to do the granite. The cabinets were about 4K (priced the same ones at HD and they were over 10K)
the granite was 1800. I will see if I have any pics of my kitchen.
Installing the cabinets took about 6-8 hours. Once you get one up the rest are a lot easier. Image Attachment(s):

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
We are going with Dynamic Kitchens(a vendor here). We are having custom (all wood) cabinetry made for us for about 5k cheaper then what HD wanted for partical board cr*p. His work is beautiful and we are getting a kitchen right out of our dreams.....and best part-- his install was included! My DH was all prepared to do it himself and now he doesn't have to We never thought custom cabinetry could be so affordable and you can't beat the quality compared to whats out there...

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
Okay based on what everyone else has seen...we went to Home Depot tonight with our measurements and sat down with a designer for almost 2 hours. She was actually really knowledgeable and helpful BUT when she totaled it up...it was almost $15,000 (us installing cabinets ourselves with them installing countertop). I could have fainted. The cabinets were Kraftmaid and it was based on a maple cabinet that would be finished white. I know all kitchens are different but if you could give me your input I would appreciate it!

Yeah now that I have the measurements and design I will definitely give him a call. Would you say the price would be a lot less?

It doesn't seem like there are really any white kitchens on his site though (except the thermo-foil which we don't want to do)...I'll have to find out. Do you know if he does all the moulding on the top of the cabinets and stuff like that? The girl put in so much stuff when she was doing it that I couldn't keep track of all the little pieces, etc.

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
He has a cabinet that you can get in any color...that is the one we are getting. The cabinet is also the largest one that he has because there is no frame on the inside. Rachael got the white cabinets from him.
All the crown moldings are included, soft close drawers, garbage can, and pull outs in pantry and also for pots and pans

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
Do you have a huge kitchen?? Are you going with top of the line cabinets?? $15k seems pretty expensive!!
I ask because we're in the middle of a kitchen remodel as well and we got our cabinets from Lowes. They're Kraftmaid, maple, chestnut color, they have the 'no slam' drawer features, and we installed ourselves...all for $3k. We're getting our granite from an outside dealer so the countertop isn't included in that price, but that's only costing us another $2500, and it's basically a middle class type of granite... not the cheapest, not the most expensive.
FM me if you have any questions.
We don't have our countertop yet but here's a pic of the cabinets before the hardware was installed. The wall on the right isn't in the picture but there's a 36" base cabinet there with the matching wall cabinet above it, and then the fridge next to that.

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
we did Ikea, and they are FANTASTIC and really well made! Plus SUPER inexpensive. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them, plus they are guaranteed!
Really easy to install too, DH did it himself with his cousin!
We did white cabinets and we redid our entire kitchen from floor to ceiling, new floor, new cabinets/counter and new appliances all for under $3500 bc Ikea was SO reasonable. We also didnt go with top of the line appliances and in fact went REALLY cheap on them, and they have been fantastic too!

We went to lowe's and bought Kraftmaid and they are always have some sort of promotion. Through Lowe's it was if you spent a certain amount you received a certain dollar amount off. So we spent $14K and received $2K off. Then after that Kraftmaid had a promotion that if you wanted all wood construction you received 10% off those cabinets. We saved another $1K. When I went to HD they didn't have any promotions at all.
One thing I realized when looking at kitchens and not just at HD or Lowe's, but also at kitchen places. The more detail a door has the more expensive it gets and glazes also add to the cost.
In our first home we did Ikea and we LOVED them. They looked great and didn't cost a lot. I would definitely look into it.

Re: Kitchen Cabinets - Any recommendations?
We paid around 10k for our cabinets and we bought them from Home Depot (Thomasville cabinets). Our kitchen is not that big but we went with a coffee finish and raised panel and glass corner cabinet.
