Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

ok i have 2 questions..

1.. would you prefer a corner sink? or in the middle ?

2. to gain more countertop space.. (we have a small kitchen) would you move the fridge to the otherside and NOT have the ice maker ? just a regular fridge.. reason being , we would have to run water to the otherside of the room.. and it would mean more money..

i would LOVE opinions and suggestions!!

What is your kitchen layout like? Do you have any pics now? I'm usually not a fan of corner kitchen sinks, but in some cases it works.

Hmmm if your sink can't face a window then I think the corner would be a good idea to help maximize counter space !

For the ice maker as far as I know it's just a tiny plastic tube that has to make it to the fridge and can be ran easily.

I love having our sink in the corner Chat Icon You don't use a lot of your corner counter top area since you can't reach that far back for the most part KWIM? (pics in my album) Like on the other corner of my kitchen my kitchenaid mixer sits in it.

As far as ice maker goes. We have the capability to set it up, it's been 2 years and we still have not. I think if it's a fridge with the ice dispenser on the front, then I would spend the money b/c I like crushed ice Chat Icon BUT if it's just to fill the bucket within the freezer. I fill up trays and dump them in there every couple of weeks, same thing.

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

regarding the sink- i think it really all depends upon what type of space you have and what is the best way to maximize that space- keeping the "kitchen workflow triangle" constant as well (stove/sink/dishwasher)..

i have the design at home that they created.. i want to scan it..

but right now our kitchen is a 10x10 square..

so we would do the "L" shape.. we cant put cabinets on the other side because of all baseboard heating.. AND the window is super low for some reason.. i hate that!!

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

Re: Ice maker -- if you're already remodeling the entire kitchen, the cost to run the water line to the fridge on the other side of the room will be minimal. We did this when we redid our kitchen (but note that we did not redo the floors, so we had to go through the basement ceiling). It cost a couple hundred dollars to run the water line from the basement to the fridge. If you're redoing the floor and moving plumbing, running a water line to the new fridge location should be no big deal at all.

Good luck!

Definitely need to see a pic!

As far as sinks though... I prefer a sink in the middle. We always use a drying rack for the dishes and I feel like it would look weird with a corner sink.. KWIM?

ahh.. never thought of that.. i think DH wants the middle sink too.. he thinks it will be easier.. then the corner spot will be all countertop space..

I would prefer a sink in the middle - I'm not a fan of corner sinks... but it's really personal preference.

More counter space is WAY more important to me than an icemaker - so yes, I'd move the fridge.

We have the fridge on the opposite the sink. Our contractor just ran the line under the floor. We have a counter depth fridge with french doors on the top/ freezer on bottom. Water on the door, icemaker in freezer.

We have a galley kitchen and it's much roomier this way.
It wasn't much more $ .

i personally dont think i would like the sink in the corner, we have our sink in the middle in front of the window, i guess so i can look out it doing dishes Chat Icon

and as for the frig, if you get more counter space by not have a frig with ice maker go for it, my parents house have an ice maker and when we moved in out home and our frig didnt have one i thought i would miss it and i dont. I am not sure about you, but i would be more happier with extra counterspace then a ice maker

I have a corner sink in my vacation home and the sink itself is not a problem. The dishwasher is right next to it though, and that is not good. Iif someone is standing at the sink, we can't open the DW door without being in eachother's way.

I prefer the sink in the middle and if it has a window even better. I don't care for corner sinks. And if you don't really care that much about an ice maker, I would move the frig and gain counter space. You can never have enough counter space. Chat Icon GL!

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

If you need the space, then I would definitely do the corner sink and the fridge across the room without the ice maker/water feature.
While we all 'want' things, sometimes it is better to work with what you can have and maximize the space you can get.

As for the cement slab, they can dig a trench to run the tube. In our new house they ran copper heating tubes across the slabs to get to the extension that was added. They owner told us they dug two 6" trenches to get two more radiators in. So it can be done.

If you have the standard Levitt ranch with the L-shaped kitchen, I would go with a corner sink. You will get a lot more counter space.

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

I don't have a prefence on the corner or middle sink.

But I also have a basic fridge and really don't notice the whole ice maker thing. I guess cause I never grew up with it and I'm not big on ice.

We have limited counter space and it kills us. So anything we can do to have more counter space we are all over.

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

what do you mean move the fridge? move it where?

we have a cape and ours was next to the front window window and i loved it!! i would have loved to put built on cabinets over the fridge and below and to the right of the window!!! more cabinets in a levitt cape the better almost making it a galley kitchen instead of a basic levitt cape

i can't wait to see what you do with it!!

Re: Kitchen remodel question... WWYD..

Have you ever thought about having vents installed under the new cabinets so you can still put cabinets where the base board is? They could install ductwork so the heat would come out by the kick plate.
