Lactose Free Formula?
Just spoke with the GI's nurse who gave us instructions on starting to wean off Elecare. We have to slowly introduce lactose free formula into every bottle with Elecare. She couldn't give me a specific name if a lactose free formula, but she said she's seen in it the store and the regular formula companies make it. It's no Alimentum. Do any of you know which are lactose free formulas? I can't seem to find it on Enfamil or Similac websites... Thanks!

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
Thank you, Jess. I had done a search, but a lot say lactose-sensitive, not lactose free. A lot of soy formulas also come up so I need to clarify with the doctor's office tomorrow do they want milk-based lactose free or soy. My guess is milk-based, but I want to check. I'm so nervous about this!

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
if you read the fine print though - like on the BRU one - it is lactose free:
Product Description Babies R Us Lactose Sensitive Formula is designed for babies with lactose intolerance. This is a lactose-free formula offering a more preferred source of protein for babies with lactose sensitivity. Includes DHA and ARA which are naturally found in breast milk.
All Babies R Us infant formulas meet the nutritional levels recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Each can of infant formula contains all the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your baby needs for a healthy start. Included in each formula DHA & ARA, Calcium, Folic Acid, Antioxidants, Choline, Vitamins D and Iron.
i don't blame you for being nervous!!!!!

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
Yes, the BRU formula says it right on the package lol - didn't see that with the others though - hard to see online - have to look in person.
Not sure I trust "store brand" formula - I know that sounds silly, but...
I found online Enfamil lactofree Lipil but it looks hard to find.

i know a lot of people use the Target brand...
i get what you mean about the trust factor - but i'll say to my knowledge, BRU hasn't ever had a recall on THEIR formula - but enfamil & similac have...(not quoting facts here - just from memory)...

We use Target Brand's version of Similac Sensitive and got the green light from both our pediatrician and a pediatric GI. I know it is "lactose-sensitive" BUT when you look at the printed ingredients on the can of a generic formula the differences, if any, are so miniscule. It is literally HALF the price of the Sim Sensitive. If you can find a generic of what you are looking for, its hard to pass up those kinds of savings.

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
I use an Organic Lactose Free formula made by Nature's One called Baby's Only. It says Toddler formula, because they believe breast feeding is best for the first year, but it is acceptable for infants as well. I also add 1 packet of their DHA supplement! You can buy the formula off their website or at Whole Foods/ Fairway

We also use the Target brand of "lactose-sensitive" & had it confirmed by the Ped that it is lactose free (says in writing too). When we tried to switch DS back to Similac Sensitive after the recall, he had a reaction because it does contain some milk

I'm curious why he wouldn't have us use Alimentum - I wonder if there's not enough milk in there and want to introduce him to more. I spoke to his nurse this evening, not him, so I'm prob going to ask him tomorrow.

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
We are on EleCare if you want to talk FM me! Just FYI your insurance must cover it! According to NYS law they the formula is the only source of nutrition and they have to cover it if the baby has a proven medical condition. We fought it and won. EleCare is very expensive and it is worth the fight! My DD has been on it since she is 6 weeks and she is a different kid! It was amazing for us! Good luck!

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
OMG do you find yourself smelling like it? I just can't! It is gross. But I am thankful that it is available for dd. Just so expensive! We were told we have to wait well into a year b4 we start introducing milk products and dd is only 4.5 months old.

Smelling it is gross enough...I Accidentally tasted it once. I almost threw up. It doesn't seem to bother my son though. He has sucked it down from day one and never refused it once. I never got a chance to introduce dairy to him because he was still having severe reactions to soy at 11 months old. So I held off totally on dairy...

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
I have never been brave enough to taste it, the smell is enough. My dd sucked it down from day one as well. The GI tole me to wean her into it but I gave it to her straight. I just couldn't see giving it to her with the Allimentum if it was hurting her. She was fine with it. I think I took it worse. Good luck! :)

Someone posted a few weeks ago that Similac Sensitve now has an ingredient that = lactose (their niece had a problem and they looked into it).
Similac RS and Enfamil AR are lactose free.

FYI - Enfamil AR is NOT lactose free - I just spoke to them on the phone. They no longer make Lacto-Free Lipil

Thanks for the update!
I had to look into lactose free formulas back in March and it was super confusing - the ped told me to do it and I went to the store and was baffled.
I wonder if Good Start has a lactose free...

Re: Lactose Free Formula?
AR is NOT lactose free
Similac Sensative and Sim Sensative RS is still lactose free. Don't know where the info that it has lactose in it came from, but it is false.
