ladies delivering at Winthrop
Are you allowing the hepatitis shot offered at Winthrop to newborns?
Do you have any info regarding this vaccine?
Thank you in advance

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
We did not. It's not really necessary for them to get the shot right away. Ask your Ped., but we defered to our ped to give the shot at her 2 month visit.

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
Your ped. might prefer that he/she administer the shot rather than the hospital. I would call up and ask.
I had the hospital give it to my DD when she was born and I cannot remember why, but I remember my ped saying that he wished I would have let him administer the shot. (sorry, preggo mush brain, cannot remember lol)

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
i opted to give it to DD at birth, one less shot at the dr's office and i figured i'd be in the hospital with her so god forbid she had a reaction to the shot we'd already be surrounded by dr's

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
We did it at the hospital and our ped is affiliated with winthrop and we called them first to see what they thought. they said absolutely do it and in the hospital. so we did and are very happy with our decision. they have to get it anyway and 1 less shot at the doctors. I was not taking the chance of her coming into contact with hep b which is easily passed from 1 child to another, besides adults. kids do the weirdest things- putting things in their mouth, someone gets cut and they touch the blood out of curiousity, drinking from a cup from someone else. you just never know.

we did not, only because we had our ped administer it at her 2 day visit.

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
Honestly, I never even thought about it. I just found my pediatrician, so I'll give a call in a few weeks and see what they recommend.

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
We will not be giving this to our daughter until I go back to work when she is 6 months old (I work with a special education population.) We will be delaying all vaccines until she goes to preschool. I don't find it necessary for a newborn to have a hep b shot when she will not be exposed to it at so young of an age. I do know that sometimes the hep b is in a combo vaccince so if you give it in the hospital, you have a chance of getting a "double dose" when you get the 2 month vaccines.

Re: ladies delivering at Winthrop
Our ped said not to get it in the hospital. They did it the day after we came home from the hospital at the office.

This is exactly why we decided to have it done at the hospital as well.

I feel the same way and will not be getting the shot at the hospital....and am seriously considering delaying all vaccines until later on...
