Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
Please get down to their level tonight and check for dangerous things that can hurt them.
My cousins neighbor's 1-year old pulled a TV down on top of himself on Monday and died. The mother was 30-feet away from him sweeping the floor, and the boy's 6 year old sister was on the floor watching TV with him when it happened. Please bolt down your furniture in every room, roll up all cords, and put locks on all cabinets. A few seconds is all it takes for something to happen.

OMG - this just made my heart stop.
I do have two TVs that he is hardly ever around but when he is I watch him very closely - but you just convinced me that I NEED to secure them.
How tragic and heartbreaking. That poor family.

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
All of our playroom furniture (bookcase, entertainment center) is bolted to the wall with heavy duty L brackets (not the ones sold in the baby stores), bolted into the studs... when they get older I'll patch the huge holes in the wall from the brackets and the furniture is old and will be replaced eventually... the furniture and walls I can always repair. DH at me when I made him go to Home Depot and get the super heavy duty ones but I didn't care... this has always been a fear of mine.
Many to that poor child and the family

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
they 'think' he grabbed a cord and it came flying down. The mother said the TV was sooo heavy she had trouble moving it to clean and that she has no idea how the baby was able to move if she had so much trouble with it. The TV was higher up in an armior on one of those roll out shelves. The only thing I can think of is maybe the roll out shelf when pulled out is unstable toward the front of it. It's so scary.

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
You have no idea what these little ones can do...
I am fortunately one of the lucky ones....
The twins pulled a 19 inch TV down on top of them, from a chest of drawers, when they werent quite 3. When I went into the room the TV was ON Lexi's head!!!!! Aside from a ton of black and blues on both of them and a broken finger they were OK.
Make sure when you bolt these things to the wall you are bolting into a stud!!!!

I am always to worried about this. Our TV's are sooo heavy. I need to go home and see what I can do. Maybe put bungies around it and nail them to the wall

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
that is soooo horrible. We live in a weird apt, basically studless.
I have my TV on a wide coffee table, very low to the ground so it can't be tipped, but you never know

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
This is the exact reason that we saved up money and got one of those flat panal TVs mounted on the wall. I was too afraid to have ANYTHING that might topple on DD.
That poor family.

OMG Lisa, how terrible MIL just asked us to bolt our big bookcase (the one in the foyer) to the wall. Sounds like she's got a case.

Re: Ladies, Please get down on their level tonight ....
This is why I was so hesitant to get a new TV when we moved, but we compromised an have one that is affixed to the stand-as well, we have it blocked off so DS cannot reach the TV.
As well, we have any/all bookcase or small dressers screwed into the wall. It's such a sad story.
