Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I've had 4 unsuccessful IUIs (we're dealing with MF)
It wasn't that painful, although the speculum might be uncomfy for a bit.
good luck!

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
IUI didn't work for me (I had 6), but it's not painful at all. It's a very quick procedure, I find my annual PAP to be more uncomfortable. Like the PP said, the speculum is the most uncomfortable part. But the IUI itself is literally less than a minute

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
Do you ladies know why it didn't work? Did they give you an explanation? Are there people who are better candidates than others?
Thanks

Yes, because we found out after our 5th IUI failed we were also dealing with Male Factor IF as well.

So you didn't know that before hand like with a SA? Sorry to ask so many questions.
Do you have PCOS as well?

We did a number a few IUI's with my regular OB. She had my DH do a SA, which we were told came back normal. Once we moved to the RE, they had my DH do another SA which came back bad, they had him do a repeat which came back with the same results. We had already done 1 IUI with the RE and were in the middle of another IUI cycle when we found out. We decided to do one more IUI cycle in December because my RE clinic doesn't do IVFs during the month of December and we didn't want to waste a month.
My RE explained to us that they use a stricter scale when doing the SA then a regular lab like Quest or LabCorp does.
I do have PCOS.

Dh's initial Sa was done at a regular lab. We just saw the urologist at LI IVF and he wants DH to get another SA at stony brook as they just deal with fertility and know exactly what to look for.
I don't have PCOS.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I have had 4. We are dealing with some MF but, not severe. I don't have PCOS and I really have no idea why they aren't working. We did 3 unmedicated ones and now we are doing our 2nd with Clomid this month. I think the success rate is slightly higher than trying naturally. Maybe around 25%. i can't remember the exact number the RE told me.

Thank you all so much!!! You have been so helpful
If your DH did a SA at a lab did all of your RE do an additional one on him?

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I had my third IUI yesterday. Nothing has worked so far (but I have only one tube, so my chances of success are lessened). One IUI was on Clomid (though the follie was on the wrong side) and the other two have been on Follistim.
I read that the success rate is 20%.
We are dealing with slight MF also. I get crampy afterwards - like menstrual cramps, but weird. I usually have a trace of blood that day too.
I have to do 6 IUIs before my insurance company will pay for IVF. Fingers are crossed that the third time is a charm.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I just had my 2nd IUI on Monday & neither of them hurt. We too are dealing with male factor. Both of my IUI's I was on Clomid (50mg) to up our chances...For us, the first one failed bc the sample was not "optimal" This time around, time shall tell....
I do get crampy afterwards & sometimes a little sore down there (get that after annuals too).

Yes. It was part of our testing when we went to our RE.
I had 5 iui's and got pg on the last one. We are also dealing with MF issues. ETA: three were on Clomid and two on Follistum injectables.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
They didn't hurt at all for me and are over in a few seconds. I had two IUI's, both successful. The first ended in miscarriage. The second one gave me the twins I am carrying now. I have PCOS. I was on 150 mg clomid, had a trigger, and was on met as well.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I had 3 IUI's and got pregnant on #3. When I did my first 2 IUI's, I was on Clomid, for the 3, I did the injections. I had endometriosis and only 1 working tube. The only thing that's uncomfortable is the speculum, other than that, it goes pretty fast.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I had 5 unmedicated IUIs and I got PG 3 times. So yes it worked for me, but my reasons for IUI are not as common as ones you may see here.

Re: Ladies who have had IUI
I had three IUI total and none of them hurt. They didn't work becuase we were dealing with severe male factor IF and our post-wash counts were terrible. A pap is more uncomfortable to me then an IUI.
