Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
Not sure if anyone else is in the same situation as me, but my parents & brother live OOT (Maine). I have 3 weeks from today until my EDD & I am beginning to get sad knowing my family will not be here for the birth
My mom was just here for a week & on her way back home this morning via plane. Unfortunately that is her only way to come back when the baby is born due to my father's health problems, he is unable to drive. So we have to call her when I go into labor & she will try to get a flight.
Is anyone else in this situation? How are you handling it? I keep telling myself I will need my mom's help more when I get home then in the hospital but a part of me is so sad that I will have not one family member at the hospital to see us.

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
Both our parents and siblings live out of town so no one will be at the hospital for the delivery. I'm ok with that since it will be more time to bond with baby and time to recoup. And I agree, I'd rather have my visitors when I am home since there will be no nurses to help me! So my parents are coming to visit for 3wks once I have my baby and my in laws are coming afterward.

And for when my parents leave, we got them a webcam and set up Skpe (video conferencing) that way they can see the baby daily. We have been practicing with them so they are more familar with it. lol

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
I don't fall into the category but we had no family at the hospital for the birth. I was ok with that from the start, though. I was so tired from not sleeping that I was able to doze for a few hours once I got the epi. If people had been there, I would not have been able to do that, I don't think.
There are so many variables involved- I was glad no one was there because DD arrived at 6:22 and it was after 8 when I got into my room. I was wiped out and not feeling great anyway. My parents did come for a little while the next day but they were the only visitors. I felt so lousy that I was glad no one was around so I could just rest and nurse. My mom did come and stay after I got home, which was great.

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
My family is in NY and we are in FL. My mom works full time and my dad owns a business so there is no way either of them can come down early and just wait around until is born (as much as they'd love to). So they are doing the same thing as your mom...
My mom, dad (& his wife) and my sister are all going to book the next flight out as soon as I call and know i'm in active labor. HOPEFULLY my mom will make it in time for the birth, but I know i'll be fine if she doesn't. DH is a huge support and his entire family lives down here (MIL, FIL, brothers, cousins, etc.) and we are all really close.
My mom and dad will probably stay for 10 days - 2 weeks and my sister for a little less than a week. I think what's going to be the hardest part is when they all have to go back to NY. I can cry right now thinking about it.

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
baby #1 my mother was here for his birth. then my sister came the following week. (my brother was still in HS so my dad had to stay home with him)
baby #2 I think its only going to be my dad here. My mother is in nursing school...my sister is a teacher, the other one still in school, another one in WA working with a baby, the last one is a nun(hopefully she can come, but isn't able to plan anything).
If I was still in SI, I would have 75 people at hospital. Now, it will probably only be me, DH, Josh and my dad.
Its weird anytime I got sad that no one was around, I try and remember those girls who's mothers have passed away and try and be grateful for what I do have.
good luck!

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
Kristen, We had my Mom there but, stephen had no family. They all came a few days later. Honestly, it wasn't so bad. Besides my Mom, I didn't really want anyone there and they kind of annoyed me. Don't tell them that though! But, I see what you mean. Hopefully your Mom will get there.. but, I hope more that you have a super fast and easy labor. Think about it... if she has time to get on a plane and get to while you are still in labor.. OUCH!! Okay.. totally kidding.. but, you know.. trying to see the bright side of it?? LOL.
You will be amazingin your labor and your Mom will be there to help when you get home. That was when I needed the help. I was so involved in the baby and SOOOO sore ( 54 hours of labor will do that to a girl) that I could hardly walk.

Re: Ladies with less then 3 weeks: OOT family
Thanks ladies! I guess I was truly just bummed knowing that only DH's family will be at the hospital but I know my mom's help will be much more appreciated when we get home! She already told us there is no time limit on how long she stays, as long as we want her.
