Landscaping pics.

We planted a lot today. There is a purple azeala bush, japanese bloodgrass, hostas and pansies. The green plants w/ no flowers are hydrangeas. I can't wait for them to bloom. The trees are a japanese maple and pink flowering dogwood.Chat Icon

Is the pink flowering dogwood a "kousa" dogwood? It will flower later in the season compared to the other dogwood's.

Re: Landscaping pics.

Thanks everyone! I'm not sure of the type of dogwood. It got a few flowers about 3 weeks ago though.

They are ok. Not too bright. If MIL didn't buy them for us, I would get brighter ones.Chat Icon

That looks great Karissa!! Wait until everything really starts to bloomChat Icon
The hydrangea is so beautiful when they start getting big...I just ordered a 'crimson red' hydrangea. I've never seen it in this color. It's measly right now but healthy looking so we'll see...Chat Icon
I know someone that puts citrus peels in the soil for the acidity and they say it changes the color of the flower- either more blue or more pink.

I found this...
Hydrangea plants can grow in variable soil conditions, but most will prefer well-drained soil. Many of the species of hydrangea bloom from August until the first frost, but some of them, such as the Oakleaf hydrangea, bloom in mid to late spring. One interesting fact about hydrangea plants is their tendency to have a different bloom color depending on the pH level of the soil. In acidic soil, the blooms will be blue, while in alkaline soil they will be red. If the soil is neutral, the blooms will tend to be white.

I have a feeling that when mine blooms, it won't be red. I ordered this from N.Carolina and the soil there is completely different from here.Chat Icon

Hydrangeas?

I bought two hydrangea plants for our house. I know they get really big, even though they are sticks now. My question is can these go in somewhat shaded areas or do they need direct sun?
