Lateness
On Saturday we had DH's family over, invited everyone to come at 3:00. I know that they are often late, but this time was ridiculous and I found it very rude. The first of our guests didn't come until 4:30 and the rest strolled in after that. I guess I am not surprised, just annoyed and venting!! Oh and no one brought anything

My dad's side is like that - my dad included. I find it incredibly rude. I call my dad out on it all the time.
We just had a shower and everyone on the other side was there promptly. My dad's side got there 20-40 minutes late.

My husband's family is like that - always running late - and I've basically just gotten used to it and plan that they will always come about 30-60 minutes late.

Did they call ahead or even apologize for being late? I understand no one ever shows up on time but 1.5 hours late is rude and too much.
When I host, i have certain people that are always 1-2 hours late but when I see those same people at another get together, they are always on time. Grrrrr

1-1/2 hours is beyond rude.
After an hour with no one there and no phone calls - hey we're running late, see you soon - I would have started to pack everything up and make plans to go out to dinner.

Sorry to play devil's advocate here, but Saturday was Arizona hot. Was your event outdoors? Maybe they wanted to avoid being outdoors for as long as possible?
Either way, 1.5 hours late is very rude! They should have at least called you and told you they were running so late.

Same. Most of DH's family members come at least 30 min late but DH has an uncle and aunt that are especially late always. For my DD's bday they came about an hour and a half late. For my bridal shower I remember his aunt showed up when we were having cake! So like, 2.5-3 hours late.

My sister's family always late. We call it Dominican Time. IT is now at the point we tell her one time and the rest another. She even does it for parties she throws. She tells her DH's family an earlier time and us a later time and we still get there before them.

My husband is like this. I cannot stand it. Before we were engaged and not yet living together, I'd tell a different time by at least 2 hours. Once for a family party, he was 2 hours late - for no reason!! Since we've been married I've managed to keep late show ups no more than 15 minutes. But as someone who likes to be on time for things, it makes me crazy.

I agree. I hate when people are late and I always try to be on time for everything. But with yesterday's heat I showed up late to an outdoor party to avoid keeping my baby and young child out in the heat too long.
But overall under normal conditions, it's extremely rude to be consistently late.

Ugh, my brother is like this. It drives me crazy. I started telling him an hour earlier than I want him here. Since I started doing so, he hasn't been more than 15 min late. It works, try it.

Re: Lateness
I am always on time. We have some friends who are very punctual and then there are others that are usually 1.5-2hours late and then they are always the last to leave...
But depending on who's house we are going to... There is one that we get there and they literally don't serve food for almost 2 hours... so you are nibbling on chips until there is nothing left in the bowl...
so we make it a point to go a little later. I will fess up to that...

We have family that does this too for every holiday. It got to the point were if you are invited for 3, we plan an hour for wine and appetizers, and if you aren't there by 4, we still serve the meal. You eat when you get there if there is any left and we don't offer to heat it back up either!

Be careful... I've tried this before and then they showed up on time and I was totally unprepared. I can't win with some of my family

It was so hot but we set up everything indoors & told everyone this on Thursday. I guess I should just be used to it but a call or a text would have been appreciated, we heard nothing from anyone

my sister is the same... including the dominican part.
she thinks it's funny. gets under my skin every time. this is why i tell her to be there about two hours earlier than i expect her to show up.

My aunt was 3 hours late for Christmas Dh's bf and family always show up an hour or so late My cousin and her dh were an hour late for their gender reveal party and food wasn't served for 2 hours. Then they got pissed bc people started eating as the food was put out. Same cousin above showed up 30 minutes late for her dd's baptism. We were all sitting there watching others be baptized.
Dh and I hate lateness. Makes us both super crabby and we haven't hosted in awhile because it pisses us off.
All above thinks it's funny and don't understand why we get annoyed.

DH's family is like this and DH is too, and it drives me nuts because now I'M late for stuff as a result of DH's habits. My family is perpetually early/on time, but I've noticed over the years that when I go to things with DH I tend to show up late and I HATE it but he can't seem to get himself out the door on time!

Re: Lateness
I personally do not like being late, but I have learned to ignore the habits of people who are perpetually late. If they miss the food, oh well...too bad.
HOWEVER, if every single guest was that late, I would be so mad that I rushed to get ready and situated on time.

This exactly. I rushed to get everything ready, in order, 3 kids bathed, food & drinks set up. I ended up putting away the food (apps) & waited till everyone finally showed up to put them back out. Very annoying because we ended up eating much later than planned and of course, everyone lingered until very late. I can't stand it anymore!!
