layoffs in NYC - got some info...

Spoke with my principal today. He spoke to some higher ups who put the number at 1,900 layoffs.

He said that all trans-B licenses go first. Also mentioned that there were 600 TFA teachers who would go first (that was how many TFAers there were from just last year....there are still more who are w/o licenses from the year before. Same for teaching fellows).

Then its by license...

Re: layoffs in NYC - got some info...

found what trans-B licenses means

for others who are unaware

Transitional B: This certificate is for individuals enrolled in an alternative certification program, such as New York City Teaching Fellows and Teach for America. This certificate is valid for three years, during which the teacher must meet all requirements for the Initial or Professional certificate through an approved university program. The Transitional B certificate is not transferable between districts and becomes void if you leave employment or do not maintain good standing or fail to graduate from the university program.

Honestly, I think most of us will be ok if they do it that way (and IMO they should- as most TFA people leave anyway)

I read somewhere (not necessarily reliable, but it makes senses) that the core subject teachers would get preference over electives- so art/music etc. will be more likely to be on the chopping block.

But they really need to offer a buyout.
