Leap year babies?
Anyone have a baby born on Feb 29th?
My friend's wife is scheduled to have a C-Section Friday afternoon.
When the heck will they celebrate his first birthday?
Do you just choose the 28th or 1st?

Me too. Interesting. My friend's mom was born that day. Guess for your friend's baby they just pick the 30th or the 1st. He could have a SUPER cool 4th b-day party (isn't that when the next leap year would be?)
I've always said that babies born on the 31st of a month, when do you celebrate their 'month-birthdays' with the sign and all? Guess you just choose a day.

Re: Leap year babies?
My cousin is a leap year baby.
My cousin will throw him a big party every four years.
A few years ago - when it was his 7th birthday she had it at a kids arcade - it was very cute. Obviously - he was 28 at the time.
If I had to choose - I would DEF. not have my baby born on this day though.

I had a coworker who was a leap year baby. She celebrated her birthday on Feb. 28th, since she identified with being born in Feb.

Re: Leap year babies?
My neighbors son is a leap year baby. We are all so excited that he will actually have a birthday this year.
In general they celebrate his birthday on March 1st. And the mother explained it this way..Zach will be 8 on his birthday. Leap year or not he will still be 7 on February 28th. It's not until the next day that he will be 8 so whether that next day is the 29th of February or the 1st of March that is when he actually turns 8...Hope that makes sense.
He is sooooo excited b/c he really doesnt remember ever having a "real" birthday!!!

Re: Leap year babies?
My cousin is due TODAY...so who knows, we might have one in my family!
The year I got married was a leap year--2004--and I was thinking it would be cool to do 2/29 (it was a weekend that year), but my SIL was due with her son on 2/13, so it was too close and we got married in March instead, but anniversaries are one thing...
Honestly, I would not schedule a c-section for that day. When you're an adult it's cool, but what about when you're 5,6,7 and everyone else has a real birthday? If it just ended up that way for one of my children by chance, I think we would celebrate on 2/28--at least it's the same month.

Re: Leap year babies?
I don't think most people celebrate their b-day ON their b-day anyway (except for maybe the first year or two). How many school-aged kids have a big party on a Tuesday after school? It's usually on a Saturday or Sunday. In that case, the date isn't that important any more. Except when it happens to turn out that way, we don't celebrate DC's b-days on the actual date anyway.

Re: Leap year babies?
A girl I work with is due Friday. She is just hoping she goes on March 1st.
I wouldn't schedule a section though.
Although, it is always a topic of conversation

That makes perfect sense.

They are really excited about having the baby on the 29th.
They asked for it because it was originally scheduled for Thursday.
I think they are crazy.

Re: Leap year babies?
My friend is being induced on Thursday. She says if the baby comes on Friday, so be it, but she wasn't going to choose that day. I asked if she would celebrate 3/1 and she said she would celebrate both days! I thought that is a nice alternative.
As for a c/s, I don't think you have any choice sometimes. I had no choice with mine - OB does them (scheduled ones) on Fridays.
