how long do you keep leftovers?
and how old does it have to be before it gets chucked??

No more than 5 days max.
Everything is usually eaten before 3 days.

3-4 days max, unless its something like stew and I put it in the freezer. Then obviously it lasts for a whole lot longer.

I work in nutrition, and a hospital is allowed to store food for 3 days after it is cooked. I figure if it is good enough for department of health standards, which are ridiculously strict, its good enough for me.

my dh is the same!! i think the ONLY thing i can eat leftovers of are Lasagna!!!!  (for some reason, it always tastes better the next day anyway )

Seriously, if I'm not planning on eating it in the next 3-4 days and it's freezable, I'll throw it in the freezer. I love, love, love having leftovers in the freezer.
In the fridge, it depends what it is, but honestly I keep it until it looks or smells off. If it looks and smells good, I eat it.

3-4 days max. My DH thinks they are good for at least 7 days, maybe more. I usually try to throw them out before that point so he doesn't eat them.

Two days max for me and then it is in the garbage. Otherwise every little twinge of not feeling well I get will be blamed on the leftovers

I keep them until I clean out the fridge  (shopping day). They don't get eaten past day 4. Things tend to get lost in there...
