Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
As an Orthodox Christian I am supposed to give up certain foods(fast), not make love to my DH and go to church every Sunday and few other things I can't think of. I used to fast for 40 days with my family back home , but not since I came to the US when I was 18

I'm also going to try and not gossip/talk negatively about others.
I like this idea. I really need to do it permanently.
I usually give up all kinds of sweets - cookies, cake, candy and chocolate - but this year I am going to give up booze.

Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
I would love to give up bread, although doing it is equal to giving up use of my right arm- Not sure I can do it longer then a day...
This is a hard one.... I'm not sure.

Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
I really want to make a commitment to go to church more often, and not find excuses not to go.. It seems like I have let that happen in the past.
I don't know what I am going to give up yet. I want to work on the no meat for fridays.. This has always been a challenge for me.

Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
I just gave up coffee so I can't count that here. I'm giving up purchasing any food/drink at work. So, I will have to bring my own in. Since it is Lent I'm not supposed to each much anyway, so hopefully it won't be too hard.

Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
I am thinking of giving up things like Starbucks and DD. And no stopping for bkfst after dropping DS off at daycare.
I already gave up soda, alcohol, caffeine, etc since I am pregnant.
Maybe I should give up Facebook, lol

what would make that very meaningful is if you gave up starbucks/DD and then gave the money you would've spent to a food kitchen/charity in need.
usually I put a bowl out and throw all my loose change in for 40 days and then give that money to charity.

I haven't quite decided, but I think I'm giving up chocolate and soda. I have a major sweet tooth.
I will also try to stay positive with all of the negative things and people in my life.

Re: LENT--what are you giving up (if you celebrate it)?
I am not very good about giving things up, so usually, I do extra things-- volunteer, go to weekday mass instead of just on Sunday, give food and clothing to charities, etc.

I am giving up being pessimistic.
I have been so bad lately and yet I have nothing to complain about in life. I used to be such an optimist.
