When I was looking for homes in the Bellmore/Merrick area I was under the impression that all the schools were pretty good. We ended up in E. Meadow, and since my husband is a music teacher (and we were both music majors in college) E. Meadow's music program was a big selling point. We just saw the marching band on the Columbus Day parade and were blown away.

Wantagh SD always had a great rep but last year their school budget failed - now they're running on that backup program (forget the name).

Wantagh is Blue ribbon. My first choice, even if the budget didnt pass this year the parents and kids got together and raised the money for the sports programs. The taxes are on the high side in Wantagh.
We also looked in
Plainedge
Massapequa
Jericho is a great sD- but expensive
Bellmore
Merrick
We ended up buying in Plainedge SD. we love it. They also didnt pass the budget one year but havent had a problem since.

I do agree that everyone will have different opinions on the SD's in Nassau & even Suffolk...You can do a lot of research online & even through MLSLI.com
For us, we wanted either
Levittown
Wantagh
Seaford
Massapequa
We ended up buying in Wantagh but Levittown schools (Salk/MacArthur)
we are too... Levittown is a great district!!
