Lets talk winter "coats" and infants. Danica,Deanna, Karin, Randi, Deena, Joanna what are you going to use?
Mommies what will your infants be wearing this winter. With DS I had no idea he wasn't supposed to wear a coat so he always had a winter coat and now I'm at a loss for what to put on DD. Is some sort of fleece bunting or something like that ok? As long as it isn't puffy? Ican tell you now I am NOT the type to do coats on coats off coats on coats off coats on coats off, especially with a pre-schooler and an infant (keep your flames to yourself please)
Show me what you will use or have used please.

Re: Lets talk winter "coats" and infants
I used blankets for both children. A thin receiving blanket, and a thicker fleece blanket tucked in to the infant seat.

Re: Lets talk winter "coats" and infants
DD had a coat, but I only really used it on special occassions. I had her dressed in warm clothing and then in her infant carrier with a bundle me on top. I used blankets on top of that if I felt necessary. I also had a snow suit for her for really cold days but honestly she was not out for long periods of time when it was really cold.

Re: Lets talk winter "coats" and infants
I had a bundle me for DS, he was younger (bornlate July)DD was born early April so I think she may be to long for the bundle me. Plus, ithought iheard those ae not safe either because. You shouldn't put anything between the straps and the child. I could be wrong on that though.
How did you get your DC to keep theblankets on. DD kicks her feet around like crazy in the car seat.

Re: Lets talk winter "coats" and infants
Well my DC was a newborn over the winter (born in Oct) so I really didn't have too many issues with her moving and kicking things off. I just made sure my car was nice and warm and she was fine.

these fleece coveralls are a great option from LL Bean, super warm, yet not bulky. http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/61317?parentCategory=500223&feat=500223-tn&cat4=3160

I did a little bit of coat on/coat off if there was a long walk. But for the most part, I wrapped her in blankets. Sometimes we put her coat draped over her with the hood on, but didn't put her arms in, zip, etc. and then put blankets over that. Personally, I don't recommending bunting or anything like that. They are still pretty thick for a car seat, so I wouldn't use it in the car seat, and that is much harder to get on and off quickly. I had bunting outfits for each of my girls (I bought the first one, the second was a gift) and neither outfit was ever used. It's a shame because they are really cute, but I didn't find them functional. I would only see it working if you are going for a long walk in the stroller.

I had this for DS who was an October baby and I am getting it again for DD (June baby). It's SO cozy and warm and IMO not too bulky. I primarily used this for the bjorn though and used the bundle me for the most part for DS but DD will probably outgrow the infant seat mid-winter and I'll probably have to use this more. LL Bean

didnt have a winter coat, used the Bundle Me --- it was SO warm!
DD was a fall baby so she was still quite small in the winter. Never had a problem with her being cold

I thought you just weren't supposed to use bulky coats ? Which I consider the big down coats.
I used a coat like this from Carters. It didn't cause a problem with the carseat or anything. I also had a snowsuit that had the whole in it for the car seat lock. That was great on really cold days.

I was wondering this also. Last winter Lucas used the bundleme in his infant seat but now he's not in his infant seat. We don't always get a close parking spot so we really need to get him a jacket or something. Do they make bundlemes for toddlers? If so, what do you do- use it in the stroller then take it out and put it in the car seat?

I lived in Massachusetts with my first and used one of these fleece buntings. It was great at keeping her super cozy, even when I took two mile long stroller walks in the snow!

I've been thinking about this. I just feel like it's going to be hard getting her into one of the snowsuit getups every morning. Maybe a bunting type without the leg separation would be eaiser. I think fleece would be better in the car seat than a puffy one..
ETA: just realized that without the leg separation you wouldn't be able to buckle them in the stroller or carseat! DUH

hmmm, great question. I dont think DS will be in the infant seat once we get into the heart of winter so that carseat bundleme is out
layers are the best way to go I guess. ive already purchased a few hats in different thickness' and a few lightweight jackets, fleeces etc layers, layers, layers!
Also, at 6-8 months, do they wear that bunting in the snow? or a snowsuit? (am i already talking about snow?)

I always used a cable knit coat. It is not bulky and kept them warm. I got lucky and just bought a gap cable knit coat for $10 from a girl on LIF (the buy/swap thread)
Thanks elizabeth

Sean had a heavy zip up hoodie from the children's place w/ lambswool something inside so it was super warm - he wore it all winter - the only time he worn his 'coat' was if we were outside for a long time
If he was still really small, I would have gotten the bundle me for the infant carrier

I think I can still get away with the buddle me, but I'm not sure for how long. I also used lots of blankets over the entire carrier last winter. I am with you for the upcoming year, at a loss thanks for posting this!
