why are the bundle me's not safe? and good point on being too long for them, my DD is off the charts in length so i am sure she would be too! and because of that, i am not sure how long she will be in her infant carrier seat.
i don't think i am going to get a bunting, because i will constantly have to take her out of it when we go somewhere for fear of her overheating. maybe one of those kiddopatomis things?
i guess i've decided on nothing. HAHA

I guess they say anything attached between the straps and thechild is no good. I guess I'm probably going to get the bunting and if im running store to store I will use blankets. Who knew this could be sodifficult!

For an infant a winter coat is kind of a waist of money if you are going to be going in and out of the car bc they will always be in the infant carrier in the bundle me.
Plus..you should not use a coat in the carseat,if is not safe!
They are recommending these days that you not use the bundle me which might be why she is asking about alternatives like non bulky coats- - I used it for DD#1 b.c I didn't know - but I was told with DD#2 not to use it as it isn't safe to use. We had that pouch that goes over the seat but DD really didn't care for it.
Ok, I did hear that they say the Bundle Me's are not safe now.....I thought so (as I mentioned above) thanks for confirming LilyKat.
Like LilyKat said, I did not know coats and Bundle Me's were not safe when I had my son so I used them both at some point. Now that I know I am trying to find the best alternative. And I am being honest in saying I will not do the coat on coat off thing, I just wont. Its hard enough getting out of the house on time without coats. If I warm the car and put blankets over DD that could work, but i'm leaning towards one of the non-poofy alternatives the moms above have shared.
I agree with when it is just one coat and and off is tough - but with two - esp an active toddler it is impossible! I would try to get either that thing that goes over the infant seat or a fleece jacket or one piece like I and some others posted. It is really tough I was there with you last winter

Carseatsafety says on here and I have been told when my car seat was inspected that nothing should go into the seat that doesn't comes with it - and it can interfere with the functioning of the straps. I used one with DD#1 and no one told me that at the time - but I tried the one that goes over the seat and that one is safe - DD#2 didn't love it though but she was warm and I put a blanket on her then the cover over the seat.

christine, did you decide what you're going to do?
I *think* I'm going to get one of the fleece one piece coverall things. I don't think the Bundle me will be good for Caroline since she is so long. Plus they say those are not safe. Ugh! I don't know, I guess the flatter style fleece ones are the safest. WithRyan I needed something on his upper body in the bundle me anyway....what did you decide?
I am so confused about what to do about this too...I was thinking of doing the same as you and getting a one piece coverall.

Reading this post I'm more confused than ever! DS will most likely be out of the infant carseat by the middle of winter (he's only got 6 more pounds to go before he's out of it and he's only 3 months old ) so I have no idea what to do.
Wouldn't a bunting be too hot in the car and stores? I couldn't imagine taking that off every time I went in a store. I have no idea!

I don't think a bunting would be too hot in the car, after all most adults wear big bulky coats in the car. The stores, yes. I think I'm leaning towards blankets and hat for errands. Mall - you could take off the bunting, target type store, maybe blankets orpull down thebunting half way. No matter which option you go with,it seems the safest options are a lot of work

Re: Lets talk winter "coats" and infants. Danica,Deanna, Karin, Randi, Deena, Joanna what are you going to use?
I used this for my daughter when she was in the infant seat. Very safe since it just goes over the top of the seat. It doesn't interfere with the straps like a Bundle Me. She also had a thin fleece coverall from LL Bean. On a very cold day I used both, sometimes I stuck a blanket under there too but that was usually overkill. I've heard good things about these other ones too http://www.mysweetdreamsbaby.com/carseatcovers.htm http://www.dafooni.com/cd.html
For the older ones, I used the car seat poncho . Perfect for house to car and for other short distances/quicker errands. Always kept the warmer coat in the car so that it was there if we would be walking for a while or just in case. A lot of the time I would shove the regular coat in the stroller basket since my daughter preferred the poncho to her regular coat. Cant use it alone for the very coldest days but great for an average winter day. Its good to have even if you just use it for the car. The kids will stay warm when you take off the bulky coat and stay warm for the ride. Hope that helps.

The Kiddopotamus Posh Pouch was the best! 10x better and easier than the Bundle Me!

I like this one... From Columbia. What do we think? They have some CUTE ones!
Columbia
I was going to suggest the LL Bean one (and still recommend it!), but this one is SO SO cute!!!! I have to let my SIL know about it for my niece!

I got something like the Kiddopotamus Posh Pouch from BRU (their own brand) and will be using that for the winter Also, I got DS a bunting from Nike (got it at BBB) that has removeable covers for the hands and feet. We'll use that if we go outside nearby in the stroller or in the snow.
I do want to get him a fleece coverall to wear in the stroller though. Maybe one of those Columbia ones.
