Re: Let's try this one a different way....

I think some people choose not to *believe* in evolution simply b/c there is nothing to believe in there...just cold comfort.

we came from a one celled organism...with the help of the right amount of oxygen and stuff, we grew (can you see I am no expert Chat Icon ) and evolved into multcell organisms etc...I mean, I guess there is no poetry, nothing to look to when times get rough.

believing that there is something bigger out there than we are...something to look to, someone to watch over us, makes the harder times in life easier to bear. being the be all end all of the evolutionary process (for the time being anyway) is lonely.

who want to think we are here with no purpose, other than a perfect storm of planetary changes...

I am faithful. I believe in God. perhaps he started this evolutionary process, perhaps his life force is a product of it...no one knows.

I also believe that our ancestors did a hellavu job explaining how we came to be with little to NO science to back it up. Humans are always looking for explanations..for the "why" something is. that is our brain. but our soul looks for and searches for something more...how does evolution explain that???

Heres an honest question - I am glad that someone here can answer it...

Why can't religious people believe that God oversees evolution? So if things are evolving, mutating, whatever, its all a part of God's plan?

I agree with this 100%

But I also think there's no reason to choose one over the other, even if you have a strong faith in god, so i don't understand why people do choose one or the other

exactly.

and to make things clear, i never "throw science out the window". i think there's a happy medium to faith and science. do i believe in evolution? yes. do i believe in God? absolutely. and it goes like this --- whatever it is that we started out as was put here by God. and we progressed and changed and grew over time into what we are today. why cant i believe that without being judged and having someone say that i throw science out the window? i dont get it.

Not you.

But people who can see all of the facts of evolution and say "Well that might make sense, but I don't care about science. "

My thinking is this - there is physical evolution, and then there is the soul.

Physically - we are all evolving in this world - and that is the physical part of everything...

but that doesn't mean our souls are alone. Or that when we die we decompose and become nothing... I truly believe in God (or whoever - I believe more in a higher power) and we go to God when we die...

I really believe in science and faith at the same time....

Nicely said. It is true that evolution was discovered a long time ago, but now with DNA sequencing it's been shown to be true.

Is it so impossible to believe that we are from a one celled organism when humans are the result of only two cells (a sperm and egg)?

once you make your personal decision to believe in something, let your wonderment end there and be satisfied in YOUR belief.

Some do. Not all creationist believe in the same thing. There are different types of creationists, just like vegetarians. Don't lump them all together they are not all the same.

i'm not sure...

I believe that GOd created ALL things, but I there is so much scientific eveidence of evolution. I think that he created everything, and then created the ability for those animals/species to evolve. Does that make sense?

Geez..

Just because you think there is not reason to choose one over the other doesn't mean that's what everyone else thinks. It great that you accept science and religion but why does everyone else have to?!

They don't have to! But I don't have to understand that either. and they don't have to understand what I don't understand, I don't have to understand...

round and round and round.

ETA: I am not trying, nor have I ever tried to convert anyone.

um, no. that's not what I said.

you say "ok, I understand that people can think their way, BUT why can't they just think my way"

that's where it goes to far. you don't accept the discussion. you want it to change. it doesn't have to for it to be valid or interesting.

but harping on it gets old real fast.

But this is where I am being misunderstood or misrepresenting myself. I don't believe that people don't have the right to feel that way. If people want to comment and explain, they can , if they don't no one is hunting them down. I have ahd many discussions with Don specifically where he has been like "well I just believe this, and I don't have an explanation" and I have said "ok I can respect that"...

we are honestly so far from the root of ths discussion it doens't even make sense to me anymore, and I agree with 90% of the people who think they are disagreeing with me.
