I've met a lot of people (including little Brian). I'm closer to my long-time friends but I think that comes with the familiarity.
Without question, I have made some terrific friends on here that I would go above & beyond.
I wo uld do just about anything for you Barb. What you have done for me, well, it's just AMAZING

But to answer the OP... I truly feel that the girls and guy ( ) I've met on LIWs and came over here with are as close to me, if not closer, than my 'real life' friends.. they are definitely considered family to me

Well, many of the girls I've met on here have become my "real life friends" and I do feel closer to them than many people I've known for a long time. I think that coming on here leads you to people with closer interests, whereas with my "real life" friends, we've all gone in our own directions.

Tania Always in my mind as a truely great lady.
LIF people know a lot about my life. DH went to a gtg with me, that's when I realized how much I share. They knew so much about us, DH was shocked.
I will always have a special place for the girls who were pregnant with me. It was such an exciting time in our lives and I was so happy to be able to share every last detail with them.
Oddly enough, lately my real life friends are my LIF friends. In NC, its really my only connection to the outside world.

I can honestly say that I am closer to most of my LIF friends than some of my oldest friends.
With my "real" friends we have sort of drifted apart over the years - different interests, relationships, etc.
Because the friendships I've made on LIF are based on commonalities, we are much closer and I share much more with them. Lately, I find I even spend more "real" time with my LIF friends.

Yes, so true! I have met one of the best people in the world on LIW.....I have other friends that I met IRL....but there are some people that I met on here that I feel more comfortable with and that know more than anyone knows about me. I am so greatful!

I am definitely closer to my real life friends.
That being said, there are a few things that I am more comfortable discussing here because of the anonymity. Sometimes I don't want to vent about DH to someone who actually knows him because you don't want someone to judge or to change how they see him.

I am pretty close to a few people I met on LIW who are now on here. I am very close with someone I met on LIW because we did Pre Cana together and then by chance happened to live around the block from each other

This is true of me also. I think the older you get and the more your life circumstances change, the more likely you are to drift apart with people who have known you for a long time.
I know it happened with me, and I do keep in touch with some, but not a whole heck of a lot.
My life was about my family for a long time. So when I started meeting people IRL from LIW and LIF, it was a whole new experience.
It's much easier and faster to create a real bond and intimacy with someone you know virtually. You cut to the chase SO much quicker. So it's easier to connect with people who share like interests, personalities, and who are open to a new friend.
I hold my LIW/LIF friends in pretty high regard, obviously. We've shared a few highs and lows in a short time, and I hope to continue that for as long as possible.

Definitely closer to my real friends, particularly so because I don't live on LIF anymore.
But, LIF is invaluable to me, particularly for the Parenting Board - I don't really have any close friends who have children the same age as Alex, so I bond more about parenting issues with the ladies on here. Besides, who else will let me brag so much about my child without rolling their eyes (at least, not to my face )...
And while posting on here, I have grown closer to some truly incredible, phenomenal, inspiring, brilliant, gorgeous woman, whom I admire greatly...
BUT, at the end of the day, when I need a real live shoulder to cry on, my real-life friends are the ones I run to, and have always been there. I don't know what I would do without them...

Since I am still "fairly" new to NY (I moved to LI 5 years ago), LIW and LIF friends are my "real life" friends. By friends, I mean I have actually met them and done things with them. I am so thankful I have found this site. I did not think I would have found friends when I first became a member/poster.

not necessarily closer, but i made friends on LIF with one girl who we talk about things that we don't talk about to our other 'real life' friends. i know her for a few months and she knows stuff that my friends of a few years don't know.
