Lifting Program

I am really interested in getting started with a lifting program.

I have been scared of weights for too long - does anyone have any recs? I have heard good things about New Rules of Lifting or Female Body Breakthrough.

I don't have the $ for a trainer right now!

Tx for any advice on getting started.

Re: Lifting Program

Check out Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer

I don't use it personally since I have a specific trainer's program I am following but I researched it and it looks pretty good!

How do you deal with eating out? We have to eat out a lot for business reasons...Just have a salad or something??

How big are your meals?? I would like to loose a little extra body fat. Would eating more help? Yes I sound like an idiot but I don't know about this stuffChat Icon

Not an idiot at all!!!

Right now I am not really eating out much because I am in competition prep mode. However, when I do eat out, I order a regular salad with grilled chicken. I specify that I'd like the chicken grilled without butter or oil. If am unsure that they can do it (dependin on where I am) I won't get any chicken on it and will either add more protein in the rest of my day or I have been known to tote my own chicken in a ziplock! lol For normal everyday life, this is not necessary but in contest prep it is! I ask for balasamic vinegar on the side and use that as dressing. You can also ask for grilled chicken and steamed veggies---no butter or oil too! There is no shame or harm in asking a restaurant to cook for your health preferences. They do it all the time for allergies, why not for people who want to just be healthy?

I would take my daily caloric intake and typically divide it by 5 and make each meal about the same size. Sometimes, my pre/post workout meals are a tad bigger since my body is using up those calories quicker. Eating smaller more frequent meals will DEFINITELY help in fat loss!

Thanks Lauren! This is REALLY helpful. Is there an eating plan you would recommend? I worry about the meals being too big!

Oh God! LOL. That will take awhile and I'm about to run out to a bar for happy hour (see! not healthy!)

I will say that I eat lots of veggies. I'm not a big meat eater. I love sushi, Indian Food, Thai... I like highly spiced food.

Breakfast is coffee...Ummm...that's it.

Lunch will be a whole wheat wrap with hummus and veggies. or macro biotic vegan dumplings or sushi.

Dinner usually has a glass (or 2) of wine. It's usually my biggest meal by far...And we eat out...

I know! Your probably reading this with your mouth open! It's amazing that I'm not over weight! I exercise a lot. Yoga 5 days a week (high intensity) and walk every where...and run too!

Thanks Lauren! You are awesome!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I also don't really snack at all...

OK...3-4 glasses of wine tonight ( God help me the last one was free!) That's my diet. Had edamame and 2 sushi rolls for dinner. It's a mess! oh..and some mango sorbet (also free). I need to stop being a regular at these places!
