LIJ (Katz) vs. South Nassau
SN is close but LIJ has Cohens children's hospital just in case there is an issue. Which do you think is a better choice for someone who had preeclampsia with DS #1 and a 4 hour labor lol

LIJ (Katz) vs. South Nassau
I'm biased towards LIJ because DS was born at 33 weeks and spent 10 days in NICU. But from what I know, SN has a decent nicu as well. They both have standard private rooms now, so that is a non issue. Does your Dr. deliver at both?

Re: LIJ (Katz) vs. South Nassau
I loved South Nassau, but I have heard great things about LIJ. I would talk to your dr and see what they say. I know my OB delivers at South Nassau but if he knows in advance that a higher level NICU is needed he also delivers at Mercy and will have you go there since they have the highest level NICU similar to LIJ. But my nephew was in NICU at South nassau and we all loved it with him there. They where wonderful to him.

i am biased towards LIJ also. i had severe pre-e and HELLP and was also in antepartum for a little while before delivery (and this was before the new building opened which is gorgeous). DD was born at 33w and spent almost a month in Cohen's NICU. everyone at LIJ was great, and Cohen's was FABULOUS. its one of the best NICUs in the state, ranked #35 in neonatology in the nation - the only other NY state hospital ranked above it was NY Presbyterian (you can see the list here) .

Yep totally agree!! I was all about south nassau and wanted to deliver there, however my 20 week sono showed the baby may need to have surgery right away. I switched OBGYN's and found someone at LIJ. The NICU was the best, the nurses amazing. My DS spent 41 days there. The new wing is beautiful and Im so glad we ended up there.

LIJ, hands down. If, heaven forbid, the baby needs it, the NICU at LIJ is top-notch.

Re: LIJ (Katz) vs. South Nassau
I had a great experience at South Nassau, but if I thought there was any risk of my child being in the NICU (not that this is always predictable, obviously), I would definitely opt for LIJ.
