Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
OK - poll of what your house was listed at, versus what you paid.
Thanks :)

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We offered 6% below, they countered with 5% and we wound up settling on ~3% LESS than asking.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We paid 9% less then asking.
We bought our house from a contractor that bought it on foreclosure & redid it. He priced himself out WAY too high for the area. Before we put a bid on the house, it had dropped $100K. He finally realized he was too high & after some back & forth, he settled for the 9% less

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We had to pay $21k over the asking price for our house. It was crazy, even though it was a complete fixer-upper pple were bidding on it left and right!

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We paid asking....there was no way we would have gotten our house if we offered less. It was priced to sell. Oh well, We are happy.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
Well starting price on the house was 459,000 but when we looked at it they had just dropped it to 439,000 we paid 432,000 for the house.. so either way I think we got a deal.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We gave asking price. It was priced low compared to the other homes in the area and we think even though we paid asking price, we got a good deal.

I think in 2005 that may have been somewhat common. We went to an open house in Commack and the house was in great codition. By the end of the day our agent said that the owners accepted an offer that was $20,000 ABOVE the listing price (I think the listing was $400,000).

I agree - when I was looking we lost a few houses that we bid on in '04-'05 to people bidding over asking price.
One house in particular that we loved, was listed at $479k and wound up selling for $506k...

The house we're closing on next week originally was $449,000 - then they dropped the price to $434,000...we're paying $430,000.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
Yes we paid $10k over asking. It was very common during the summer of 05. Sellers were usually getting asking price or over asking price. If you wanted the house, that is what you had to do.
We saw the house b4 the open house. The real estate agent was going to have one open house and take all offers to the owner. It was an estate sale.
So we offered $10k over. And they got 12 other offers on the house. The realtor called me 2 days after the open house to tell me the seller accepted our offer. Scott

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
Believe it or not, we paid asking...actually $100 over. That's what got us the deal. It was priced to move and we think we got a great deal.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
We did FSBO and we tried to get him to lower it $5,000 but he would not budge so we paid the asking.
I think it may be different out there now than it was last year...and I plan to underbid when I look again next year.

Re: Listing Price versus what you Paid - POLL
Price was dropped twice from an original asking price of 589K to 549K
We offered 519K but got back an additional 10K after inspection so we paid 509K
80K less than original asking price.
Summer of 05.
