Not a flying rage, but I hate when I'm served at a counter (Starbucks, bagel, etc) and I say thank you and they respond "no problem."

I didn't say it was a problem you serving me and doing your job. I'm simply thanking you because it's the polite thing to do.

What happened to "you're welcome"? The other part of that simple polite exchange???

Wow, this rubs me the wrong way-- I think you're reading way too much into it.
I say "no problem! have a great day!" at work all the time & elsewhere... if I make DH dinner & he thanks me, I might say "no problem!"-- it may not be as formal as "you're welcome" but it means the exact same thing & he knows it.

It's common jargon now, the person is most likely not implying that it may have been a problem to help you with something & I am in NO WAY being rude or implying anything when I say it. If I didn't respond at all or grunted something without a smile, THAT would be rude. And if somebody ever commented on my "no problem" they'd get this: Chat Icon instead. Honestly, this makes it sound like you think you're somehow superior to the person serving you-- even though they are just "doing their job" they are still doing something for YOU.

JMO.

I have to agree, I say "no problem" in response to a thank you sometimes. I don't see how that's rude at all. BUT, this thread is about what bothers us, so to each his/her own. Chat Icon

I also hate when people don't say excuse me. If you need me to move then just say "excuse me" and I will glady say "oh i'm sorry" and get out of your way but if you just push past me all huffy I will definitely say loudly "you know the phrase excuse me does exist and it works!"

Little things that send you into an insane rage???

I really hate when I am at a grocery story and people do not bag their own items. They wait until the entire order is rung up and stand there while the cashier bags. So annoying and lazy!

This is why I love my supermarket. They bag right after they scan. LOL! Love! Goes fast too. I'm really bad at bagging.

Oh, and to the PP who doesn't like hearing "no problem." I say it all the time. Never thought it was nasty. Always say it with a smile. Didn't realize it could bother people.

As far as the topic goes... depends on the day. If everything is going wrong, plus I'm PMS'ing... yes, most things could totally bother me. On a regular day I try not to let things bother me. Just some appreciation would be nice... The wave when you let someone go ahead of you in a car or a "thank you" or "you're welcome" would be nice to hear more often. I instill that in my boys all the time how important it is to use manors and appreciate things.

Ha I have so many!!!!! Older I get more I have..

My TOP 3..

* people who don't bag their own groceries and there is a line. They watch..drives me insane

* Anyone commenting about my job as a teacher.. i.e. oh summers off, holidays, blah blah.. I don't pretend to know or comment on your job, please don't on mine. Teaching is not all rainbows and cupcakes. and it has gotten worse..

* people who talk in public on the phone.. i.e. nail salons, on the train.. and they use their stadium voice when doing so.

Little things that send you into an insane rage???

When people refer to scents (candles, lotion, deodorant, etc) as flavors. Such as, "they discontinued my favorite flavor at bath and body works!".

Really are you drinking that body lotion????

- People that don't let others get off elevator or subway before rushing in.
- Group of people taking the entire sidewalk and slowing everybody (or me) down
- Tourist suddenly stopping to watch…. a building (Sorry, I live in Battery Park City and drives me nuts!)
- When I hold the door open to someone and that someone doesn't even say 'thank you'

People who smoke right on/near other people. Even outside.

If you can smell their smoke, it's harming you, your baby, your elderly parent, etc.

They're committing assault.

Hate this!!!

One-uppers really send me into a rage... like my coworker.

Me- We got like 2 feet of snow! I can't get out of my driveway!
CW- Well I got 3 feet (no, you didn't... I saw the snow totals for your town). I still made it to work.

Me- Morning sickness is really kicking my ass today.
CW- Ughhhhhhhhhh my stomach is killing me. I've been blowing up the bathroom all morning. I'M GOING TO DIEEEEEE.

When people let their children (or themselves ) play iPad or phone games in public with the sound on. Especially nail salons, waiting rooms, and hair places.

When people can not make the effort to turn on their blinker. I mean really, it takes like .003 seconds and probably 2 muscles to flip it on.

and then you are sitting at an intersection wanting to turn left but you think they are going straight but instead they are just sitting there too in the middle of the road staring at you like YOU are the a$$hole.

Every.single. Effing. Morning. Same intersection

Can you tell it drives me insane?

You would LOVE living in New Orleans then Chat Icon There is a reason Louisiana is the most expensive state for car insurance LOL! I'll take an asshole NY driver over a clueless LA driver any day of the week.

I swear they don't use blinkers because they are of the mindset that it's no ones business where they are going.

I am in SC now.... its the same thing...It drives me insane!!

Not trying to excuse rude behavior at all. I also think that there is a huge lack of manners in our society today BUT I often don't say thank you or bless you after a sneeze or other things like that because I have a really bad stutter. Sometimes I just can't get the words out at all. I have a different type of stutter not like dddddddaffy duck it's that I open my mouth and nothing comes out. I can't physically get the word out. It's horrible esp when someone asks me my name. I can never get my name out for some reason and everyone looks at me like I'm an idiot thinking who the heck doesn't know their own name is this lady high!? It's embarrassing. So I often come across as weird or rude because I can't get the words out in time and by the time I can get it out like a minute later it's weird to say thanks after so much time has passed.

I know it is just a conversation board, but I think we all can take a second to reflect on this. Not everyone (albeit most) have, what we consider, rude intentions. Chat Icon to you

"I can't"

"I can't Even"

"The best is when (insert story that is somewhat relative to current conversation but turns all attention back to you)"

Those are just pet peeves.

If you want me to immediately dislike you- refer to your daughter as your "princess."

I'm not sure why this makes me cringe- but it does.

Driving Related -

When there's a designated turn lane in the middle of a busy road like say, Jericho Tpke, and someone just does not use it to turn.

They act like it's not there, COME TO A DEAD STOP, and make a left turn from the driving lane.

The supermarket is usually the place where I decide that I want to leave society and go move to deserted island.
I get in SUCH a rage over the pure rudeness and selfishness of people.

Saturday night we stopped at the supermarket for a few items. It was a madhouse because of SuperBowl and the impending storm.
So I needed some frozen raspberries. We go down the aisle and there is a woman looking at the cool whip in the next freezer case. But she had her wagon blocking the frozen fruit case so I couldn't open the door. I wait. She gets out the cool whip and proceeds to read the label with her cart still blocking my way.
DH walks up and says to me, did you find the raspberries?
I say loudly, YES I found them! I can't seem to get to them though!
She looks up for a second, and then continues to read the label without moving.
I was about ready to take her cart and fling it out of my way, when she finally moved.

I told DH that one day it's not going to end well in the supermarket. One day I am going to wind up in a fist fight in frozen foods.

I just see RED!

LOL! Cannot stand that.

If the lady was my husband he would probably be waiting for you to say "excuse me, can I get past you for a moment?" He does this all the time.

Yes this I hate when u see I need to go where your cart is, you look right at me and ignore me,
Along those same lines I hate when I have to say excuse me moltiple times I get the first time maybe you didn't here me but if I have to say it 3 times it is def loud and rude people are so wrapped up in their own little bubble nowadays like theirs is the only life that matters

I HATE when people don't say "thank you"..when people don't say it I say "you're welcome" loud enough for them to hear me to get my point across.

I also hate when people don't say excuse me. If you need me to move then just say "excuse me" and I will glady say "oh i'm sorry" and get out of your way but if you just push past me all huffy I will definitely say loudly "you know the phrase excuse me does exist and it works!"

I do it to cashiers and service people too. If the don't say thank you or have a nice day I will say directly to them "you have a nice day too"..

I am never rude just direct.

I work in customer service in a retail setting and the older I get the less I care too about confronting people and their rudeness. Its bad.

I have the same word blockage sometimes, too. I also have a traditional stutter sometimes. That's one reason I like on-line stuff (forums, email, text).

I also don't say "bless you" because it refers to blessing someone so that evil spirits don't enter their body.... Chat Icon

I find it more rude to publicly make a scene about someone else's illness. OK, they have a cold. No need to announce to everyone around that they just sneezed.
