LIVID over a comment from my sister in law
My husbands brother and sister in law live in Florida and hardly get to see my son. They were here a few months ago visiting and my son was like a true little devil. He is never like that at all. He screamed the whole time they were here , banged his head a few times and just was not himself. I think he personally didn't like them. He is usually a very well behaved child for his age and LOVES almost everyone he meets. They were even making comments on how I was handling certain situations with him. He runs to strangers, but refused to even go anywhere near them. Meanwhile they have pleanty of problems with both of their kids.
Anyway, yesterday was my sons 2nd birthday and my sister in law leaves a message on the machine saying, "hi this is your favorite sister in law, I am calling to wish the little head banger a happy birthday". I am so LIVID over that comment. I want to say something to my husband, but he always protects them. So I was thinking in the thank you note to them, at the bottom writing something like "P.S. Please do not refer to me as a head banger, it insults me and my mommy"
Thoughts????

Personally, I wouldn't be upset. She was joking about a behavior that she witnessed while visiting. I don't think she meant any harm by it.

I'm going to have to agree. I don't thin kfor one second she meant it as a jab. If it truely offended you, I would say something directly to her, I wouldn't put it in a TY card from DC.

I also agree. My son is a head banger and I wouldn't take a offence to it.

I wouldnt write anything, i think that would just open a can of worms that you will regret. I say just try an bite your tounge. I know its hard, but there are times when we have to, just so we dont have to deal with other things that result.

I agree! Honestly, I would just let it go - I don't think it's worth the aggravation it will cause if you say something.

I agree too. I'm sorry you felt hurt by it, but you know the truth - that he really isn't a head banger and that's all that matters. Who cares what she thinks/says? I do think she was joking, but I don't know the whole history.

I think you have to ignore it. No good can come of making an issue out of it. Just because she is an idiot doesn't mean that you have to stoop to her level.
But I will say that I understand why you are upset - because you know how wonderful your son is, and that the way he acts around them isn't his usual self. Meanwhile, she takes one incident from a year ago and remembers only that, as if that defines his entire personality. Not cool.

i understand why you would be upset. i can also see why the above posters have suggested just ignoring it, but if it really hurt your feelings i would just say something directly to her rather than writing it in a note.
your comment to her doesn't have to be angry in tone, it could just be like "you know, i feel really bad that you didn't get to see how my son really is when you came to visit, and it hurt my feelings when you called him 'head banger'"

I don't blame you for being upset those unnecessary comments would get under anyone's skin if said about your child.
I wouldn't write it on the thank you, i prob would either ignore it and write it off to you SIL having a moment of stupidity or next time i talk to her just mention to her that her comment hurt your feelings about your son.

I would be annoyed too but I would let it go. I don't think it's worth an argument with your DH or her.

Thanks everyone for your honest opinions. There is just so much that she says that she thinks she can get away with that is probably why I got so mad. My pregnancy hormones are coming out now!

I agree-the truth is that he did bang his head when they saw him and she is making a joke out of it. I would find it kind of funny, especially because I know it isn't really like him to behave that way.
