Did you see the gorgeous windows in the bedroom? Beautiful house!
ETA: How much do you think the price of that home would go up in the next 3-5 years?

I won't not get a house in charlotte cause the school discrit is really bad. I live in nc and was told by alot of people not to get a house in Charlotte cause of the schools.
well just an fyi, no where in NC are you going to find schools like you do in NY...Yes, Charlotte schools are bad, hopefully we will be able to put our kids in a charter school when the time comes
Yeah i know that you won't find any schools like ny at all.

Re: Look at this houses in Charlotte.
You can find good schools in Charlotte. I was a teacher there for 9 years. IMO Charlotte's problem is the school sytem is too big. There are over 90 elementary schools in the system. That's just too many for them to handle. You will find if you are looking for houses in those area's that are posted the schools are excellent. It's the lower income areas where you run into issues.

Actually, and I don't remember the site where I found this info (it was told to me by a parent in my son's school), but the Wake Forest school district in NC BLOWS NYC schools away!!! They are TOPS in the country!!!!! AND...I was a NYC teacher and did alot of research on this. Their standardized test scores were all above the 90% percentile across the boards!!!!!!!!

Re: Look at this houses in Charlotte.
is there any way to compoare the standards that they use for NC to NY?
I know people who moved to FL and said that the SD had great scores - but the level of education was a lot lower than the NY standards. I would love to see a comparison. (not trying to say that NC standards are lower - but those scores for a whole county seem a little inflated to me)

Re: Look at this houses in Charlotte.
I believe the standardized tests are all the same cross-country. The only variable swaying the results would be amount of special-ed children with IEP mandates taking the tests and # of ESL/ELL students taking the tests.
Wake County HARDLY has any ESL/ELL students.
Previously teaching in the NY public school system, I can tell you, that makes a huge difference.
But as far as the grading and standards of the test, I believe they are all the same whether here or in California or anywhere in between. That's why they are our "nations standards".

I only posed the question because the scores were from "state tests". I'll have to do some research.

I understand. Oh, I hope you didn't think I was being mean. Was NOT meant to sound that way.
I will also do some research because we are heavily considering moving there!! If you find out anything, let me know...OK!

Meaghan you are correct. There are no standarized tests for the country. Every state uses whichever tests they want. NC makes up their own test. There probably are some guidelines the country has for what the states need to test for at a certain grade levels. It would be nice to have the same test throughout the whole country
