From the beginning DH & I wanted to elope, but our parents freaked out and said they'd pay for the wedding, so we did the whole big wedding thing. I still wish we'd eloped and that our parents had given us the money to put towards school loans or a house.

I don't regret it. We had everything I wanted (chocolate fountain, band, etc.) at a beautiful place with one wedding at a time on the water, but I shopped around for everything and saved where we could. That said, we also had enough money to buy a home, so maybe if it was a choice of one or the other I would've felt differently.
I feel like it validated us as a couple, sharing it with everyone that means anything to us. I wouldn't have wanted to do it just the two of us. When we were on our HM in Jamaica there was a couple who eloped just the two of them, and after ate dinner at the restaurant we were at, and they just looked kind of sad...

No! I loved my wedding and all the memories I have from it. Lots of family who I haven't seen in years all flew in for it....it really was a great time.

Such a hard question because since I had my wedding I don't regret having it, but if I would have eloped I may have had that feeling like I missed out on the big white wedding.. In the beginning I had no problem with the thought of eloping because I don't have either of my parents so I didn't want the big wedding, but my dh's side was very against the idea....

I don't think I would have done my wedding differently and I don't think I could have eloped. The only thing I would have changed was my photographer and the amount of time between the church and reception.

My wedding was just a month ago, and now that we're settling in, I don't regret it. That is pretty surprising, b/c it took DH about 7 months to convince me to agree to a wedding. I would have rather eloped and put the $ toward a coop/condo. The thing is, even though it was a lot of $ for a party, it would have been a drop in the bucket for a coop, kwim?
The only thing I really regret is not inviting the LIW girls I am close with.

I'm torn. On the one hand, my wedding was MORE amazing than I ever could have imagined and when all was said and done, we still ended up with some money after the wedding. However, if we had eloped, I'd own my own house by now. The only thing that makes me feel better is that I know I WILL have a house, I just don't have it now.
ETA: had I NOT had the wedding, I would have regretted it.

my wedding is in August 06, we are paying it all ourselves... it can be a pain with all the planning and see all the $ go...
... but I don't think I'll regret it later... I am only planning to do this ONE TIME! ... so it's worth it

DH was actually the one that wanted the party. I wanted something very small, in church and then a dinner just for immediate family afterwards. I wouldn't say I regret spending the $, because DH really wanted it, but I would have been OK with my plan. We did the whole thing, including the HM for less than $20k, so we could have spent a lot more, I guess

I do not regret it one bit - in fact I wish I had more $ to spend on it believe it or not! The only thing I regret is not hiring a different florist (mine stunk) and not having my 2 cousins I am close with as bridesmaids.

I realize that although the wedding is a special day for US, it's also a special day for our families. It means a lot to them that we do things "the right way", so if that's gonna make them happy, so be it.
