Teaching DC to use a sippy cup with straw
How do you teach DC to suck from a straw. I put the cup in front of him and he puts the straw in his mouth, but just chews it. Should I just keep giving it to him and eventually he will get it, or should I be encouraging him somehow?
TIA!

I didn't teach either of my girls. They just knew how to do it. Brooke did it around 6 months old.

for my older one - i took a juice box and squirted some in his mouth and he got it right away (that was probably 16 months)
DS#2 did it at ~9 months since he would grab his brother's and he figured it out on his own.

I started giving DD a sippy cup with a straw and juice boxes at around 16 months, maybe 17 months. It took her a few tries, but she figured it out.

Re: Teaching DC to use a sippy cup with straw
just went through this. I don't know how or why he eventually picked it up, but he just did. I think the trick for us was putting milk in the sippy vs water and giving it to him when he woke from a nap and was very thirsty. Also, place the straw in the middle of him mouth. It's harder to chew on with your front teeth. GL
