Re: looking for ideas for a january vaca
i'm personally a HUGE fan of niagara falls... if you are in NY or NJ - it's not too far (maybe 6 hours) and it's BEAUTIFUL!!!
There's a TON of stuff to do on the Canadian side and you don't need a passport if you drive!

I would love to go there, but you even recommend it in January?

Do you ski? How about Lake Placid? It is a great town to walk around in and you can ski whiteface. We go every February and it is about 4.5 hrs from NYC.
Holiday Valley is another cute ski town about an hr south of Buffalo.

DH, DD and I were just there a few weeks ago, and they had pictures of what the falls looks like in the winter, and it was soooooooo pretty!!
What about driving to a B&B in Lancaster? Do you guys ski/snowboard at all? You could drive up to a mountain lodge and do that for a few days (or go to a mountain lodge anyway and learn or do snow tubing)

We go every year for New Years!
They do a free concert every year right in front of the falls! It's cold and you get a little damp from the mist, but it's so wonderful! Last year we got to see the lead singer of Styx do all of Styx's hits!!!!!
We stay in a little town called Welland, Ontario and it's MUCH cheaper than staying in Niagara and it's like 15 minutes from the falls.
