Losing Trust in OB - WWYD?

I'm 32 weeks with B/G twins. To make a long story short.

- I didn't get diagnosed with GD until a full week after taking the 3 hour at 31 weeks. I thought results should be available within a day.
- OB gave me poor advice on what to eat with GD. I felt horrible the whole weekend until I did my own internet research.
- I have no idea who is supposed to be monitoring my GD. No one has asked to see numbers at all.
- I had a growth scan on Friday at my OB's office and they told me that they babies were measuring right on track.
- Today (one week later) I had a growth scan at the MFM and they told me both babies were measuring 2 weeks behind and that it is IUGR.

I already put in a call to my OB to find out what the heck is going on and I will bring all of these points up with them, but I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. My MFM is great, but the OB is the one who has to deliver these babies and I'm not sure if I trust them any more.

It is not worth the stress to worry about- I would not hesitate to switch OBs, especially with twins. I don't think it matters the reason except if you know that you are not going to feel comfortable from today going forward, it cannot hurt meeting with another practice.

where are you delivering? honestly it doesnt matter who delivers you. i know that sounds crazy but its more important for the MFM to make the real calls on what happens during the pregnancy. if you are at LIJ or a hospital that uses on-call doctors you will be delivered by whomever is on-call in many cases anyway.
i would make sure you follow the MFMs advise more than anything. maybe talk to them to see what OB they rec if you really dont want to deal with yours anymore.

Losing Trust in OB - WWYD?

I actually live in MD and one of the doctors within my OB practice will deliver the babies. My OB did call me and talk through my concerns. He basically said that there can be significant differences between sonogram machines and sonographers. He still considers the babies to be in the normal range and I shouldn't be concerned for now. He also told me that I'd only have sonos with my MFM going forward to avoid confusion. I did feel a little better after talking to him, but I'll definitely be asking more questions going forward. I get to have 3 appointments next week, 2 with the MFM and 1 with the OB so hopefully we can figure it all out.

Thanks for your replies!

Glad you got some reassurance! Must be such a stressful situation but it's good that you OB is willing to talk you through all of your concerns.

I would just keep in contact with your MFM and bring up all questions and concerns there. It's probably too late to switch since you are so close to the end. Chances are you will go early with twins so just keep your eye on the prize and speak up at all appts.

Your OB should be monitoring your numbers with GD. At every appointment, they should be asking to see them. They also should have recommended a nutritionist for you to see who can help you figure out what types of foods you should be eating and how much. I had GD and the nutritionist gave me a very specific plan of what types of foods to eat (carbs, proteins, etc) and when. It's really important that your GD be monitored. It worries me that your OB is not asking for your numbers.

See, with my OB he had me go to MFM for all of my GD management. They would watch my numbers, I would see their nutritionist, they would do my NST's and this was the same for both pregnancies. I think this varies probably from practice to practice.

Regardless, SOMEONE should be monitoring her. Personally, I'm shocked that her MFM isn't.

I didn't know what MFM was- I just googled it! lol I wasn't considered high risk and never saw a MFM. My OB sent me to a diabetes center where I met with a nutritionist and my OB did all the monitoring and NST's. Either way, I agree with you- someone should be monitoring her GD.

Yes, this is part of why I was so frustrated. At my MFM appointment on Friday I asked who was supposed to monitor me and the Dr. said let me see your numbers, but that's it. I have another MFM appointment today so I'll ask again. Luckily all of my numbers have been in range (just a slightly high fasting of 96).
