loss of a pet
My best friend & her fiance had to put their 4 yr old pit pull down yesterday due to kidney failure. I spoke to her last night, she is just devastated. They don't have any kids yet, so this was their baby. Her DH text me late last night beside himself because she is just shattered by this. I am seeing her on Monday, is there anything I can give her that she may appreciate? I am sending them a card today, is that enough?

Re: loss of a pet
You're such a good friend! A card is really nice!
I recently lost a kitten and one thing that really would have helped would have been some meals. Definitely comfort food. Also maybe a nice album for her to put all her pics in?

Re: loss of a pet
Maybe make a donation to pitbull rescue or something in their dog's memory? You are very nice to think of their loss, so many underestimate what it feels like to lose a beloved pet.

Re: loss of a pet
Just knowing that you will let her cry, yell, or sob on her shoulder is good enough. I know when I lost my German Shepherd I was worried that my friends thought I was overreacting or whatever but as long as she knows you're there for her to vent, thats good enough! The loss of a pet is a loss of a family member for most pet owners. Some people realize this and some don't especially if they've never had a pet before.

This. I was so devastated by the loss of my cat and I felt like others wouldn't "get" why I was so upset. My true friends did and just let me talk about it or not, and were just there for me. That meant more than anything. I also agree about the comfort food- my sister brought me McD's- which to me is the ultimate comfort food. And she brought me some funny shows on DVD.

This is exactly what I would hope someone would do for me. It really is so heartbreaking and a lot of people dismiss it as "just a pet." Sorry for your friend's loss, it's even harder with their pup being so young!!!
