how long have you been there - over a year and usually there needs to be more grounds for firing
do you have an employment handbook or HR you can talk to?
it may be to your adavtage to file for unemployment still and show it was not for cause
They still have to pay unemployment for firing an employee as long as the employee did not commit willful misconduct (i.e. violating the law or company policies).
If your employer is unsatisfied with your job performance and fires you, you're entitled to collect unemployment.
Most likely, you're an at will employee (unless you are unionized, have a collective bargaining agreement that discusses firing procedures, or work for the government). Unfortunately, that means your employer can fire you for any lawful reason. I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope you find a better job soon.

sorry that really s*cks... It sounds to me like they laid you off due to the loss of business, and your manager was trying to rationalize to herself the reason for letting you go-- to make herself feel better about giving you bad news. If you were really "fired", you should have been given warnings to improve your performance-- no one can get fired out of the blue unless they REALLY f*ck up.
Hopefully you didn't like your job too much and you can look at this as an opportunity to find something you like better.

I know how you feel. I was laid off almost 2 weeks ago bc a client decided not to renew their contract. I was told that due to budget reasons they had to eliminate my position.... Just the kind of thing you want to hear when you are about to give birth in 4 weeks. But it's a blessing in diguise bc I wasn't happy there.
I hope you find something new soon. I would definitely negotiate something in your severence since it seems like they fired you without any warning. You'll be surprised how flexible employers are when you say you need to have a lawyer review your separation agreement to discuss your options. DH was able to negotiate 3 more months of insurance for us at the company's expense.

I'm sorry That is a crappy boss who doesnt' tell you she is unhappy with your work.
These things usually end up for the best. You will find a great new job and wonder why you stayed at your old one for as long as you did.
