low lying placenta
I went for my 20 week sono yesterday and the dr said that my placenta was too low. have to go back at 28 weeks to follow up and do the growth sono. other than that, baby is fine.
anyone else have this? I know that it is fairly common in the 2nd trimester.

Re: low lying placenta
I had the same thing when I went for my 20 week, the Dr said it wasn't over my cervix so not to worry he would just keep an eye on it. The placenta can still move at that point. Well, I just went for my growth and weight sono and the baby looked great but my placenta is still low, the chances of it moving now are slim. My Dr put me on bed rest for a week until I go see the specialist who will let me know what to do.
Good luck, your placenta still has time to move so don't worry.

Re: low lying placenta
I had this with my first pg and it resolved itself by 24 weeks. I was put on pelvic rest from 20-24 weeks (no heavy lifting/ having s e x, etc)

Re: low lying placenta
I found out at 19 weeks that I have a low lying placenta too. I was not put on any restrictions, but I have my sono in a week to see if the placenta moved up. I hope it has! I do hear it is common, but I still worry about it.

Re: low lying placenta
I had the "low lying placenta" diagnosis at my 20 week ultrasound. Doctor told me no heavy lifting, no you-know-what!
Went for another ultrasound at 28 weeks and my placenta has shifted up, no longer in the way!
I have heard that in a lot of cases, the placenta moves up as the uterus grows. Good luck!

Re: low lying placenta
thanks ladies.
the tech told me that most likely when my uterus expands, the placenta will be pushed into place. and i go to my OB on tuesday so we'll see what he says.
thanks again.

Just prepare yourself for the possibility your doctor may want you to go on Pelvic Rest... no heavy lifting or sex!!! Other than that, nothing else changes!
