Make Sure you lock your cars
Just wanted to remind everyone to make sure you lock your cars, esp Massapequa Park residents.
I must have forgotten to lock mine and someone went in it last night. Thank God nothing was stolen, but my console was left open, my ID Card and Reg was on my front seat with my glove box left open, and everything that wa sin my back seat was thrown on the floor.
So take precaution and lock your doors.

I'm sure they will if they really want something...but its much easier and quieter to open an unlocked door!

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
Happened to a few cars on my block a while ago.
To the PP - they only went into the cars that were unlocked... no broken windows. I'm in the same area.
Thanks OP.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
Both of my cars are configured to lock the doors automatically about a minute after I leave the car.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
That happened to me early this year - also in Massapequa Park. Same thing - just everything thrown around the car and some change taken.
I felt so violated and grossed out that some nasty criminal had their hands on my DD's car seat!
All the police said was that it has been happeneing alot and just make sure to lock the car doors.

Was the stuff just sitting on the seat? I can see a thief breaking a window to get something that they can see. Doesn't make sense to me for a thief to go through the trouble of breaking a window just to look around. Then again, I'm not a thief.

This happened to me also in MP about 2 years ago now and stole my GPS. The police said they go around and try and open the doors, if they are unlocked they go in and look for something to steal, if not they move on. It grosses me out someone was in my driveway.

Ive had my car broken into multiple times over the years and it happens both ways....things in the open windows broken...things away windows broken. If they want in they will get in whether the car is locked or not.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
The other annoying thing is that DH and I are very vigilant about locking our cars and double check. The TWO times we forgot someone went into our cars...which means they must come around more often than we think.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
Happened to me in Huntington. Nothing was taken. I have a travel DVD player attached to headrest. Good luck money all over the car, very expensive stroller in trunk. And nothing was touched. Just moved around. We called police. Luckily we have security cameras and got it all on video! It wa three teenagers/ early twenties. Cops said they look for unlocked cars. And are looking for gps systems and iPods and such. Another house a few blocks away also got them on camera. I always triple check the doors are locked !

no it wasn't just on the seat- I think they were watching me for a few nights at the gym
they knew were to look to find what they wanted- and they didn't open my glove box- where they would have found more stuff
they stole a gucci bag, everything in it and my blackberry (which was hidden some where else)
my car is so tinted you wouldn't be able to see anything esp at night when this happened

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
My car alarm goes off automatically when you open my door - locked or not.
Anyway of setting your alarms to do the same? They see the unlocked door (No need to break a window) and they think it's an easy job and then the alarm scares the crap outta them....
Would be fun to have a big dog sleeping in ur back seat when they try to rob you too LoL

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
It's going on in South Amityville as well. I don't understand why these people can't just get jobs like the rest of us. I don't bust my a$$ just for some loser who doesn't feel like working or contributing to society just to steal what I worked hard for. Unreal. You want an ipod? Go get a job then buy it for yourself. You want money to fuel your drug habit? Drugs are bad but I don't care what you do to your body as long as you aren't driving... go work at McDonald's to buy your crack instead of stealing other peoples stuff.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
This is not meant to knock anyone who has been robbed at all but I don't understand, why would you leave valuables in your car instead of bringing them with you (into your office or home)?

We don't, I'm just angry that it happens to anyone who does. I mean, yah maybe they shouldn't be keeping that stuff in the their car but that doesn't mean that people should be going around taking it KWIM?

Oh I COMPLETELY agree, it's disgusting, but it's not a new thing KWIM? So I feel like maybe people should just be better prepared.

I have NOTHING valuable in my car and they usually just go around at night trying to find any unlocked car to ransack.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
My mom said that when I was a baby someone smashed in their car window to take their tape deck out (LOL) and used my baby sock that was in the backseat to wipe of the blood on their hand and left it in the car. My mom said that she was physically ill after seeing that, knowing that someone violated us like that, went through our stuff and then used a baby sock to wipe their nasty blood off with. So even if they didn't take anything from PP cars and just went through it, I could see how you would be skeeved out just knowing that a stranger was looking around in your stuff. Puke.
Also, just goes to show that no neighborhood is "safe" I grew up in Massapequa Park and every single one of my friends, ALL of them, had their bikes stolen either out of their backyard or out of their locked shed in their backyard. My moms car was stolen in front of our house in the middle of the night and someone slashed everyones tires on the block this one time. We live in South Amityville, a really safe and nice neighborhood and when we lived in our previous apartment here the lock on the door was broken and our landlord had the nerve to say, "oh who locks their doors here anyway, it's safe here" ok but where do the criminals go to steal....the bad neighborhoods or the good or "rich" neighborhoods where people have the money to get the "good" stuff? Even DH's friend who is cop said the same thing, they go to where they will get the good stuff to sell.
