from experience...they will just break the windows.
This happened to me where I work in Jackson Heights.
They saw my IPOD wire. Definitely hide wires and take down your GPS holder because they think your GPS is inside the console and will break in.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
I always lock my doors and the one night i didnt someone went in my car, they didnt take anything but they ripped my center console right off and my glove box was open and everything was thrown all over. I specifically remember that night getting out of my car, forgetting to lock the doors and saying to myself "oh it will be ok, no big deal if i dont lock them". go figure

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
My car was broken into a few years ago. I usually bring the gps in but I had left it in there and dh had his iPod in there as well. I've been locking my door ever since.
The cop told me they like to target "safe" areas (since people will be more apt to keep there doors unlocked) with driveways close together so they can cover more ground. They usually look for small items so they can make an easy getaway.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
I leave my stroller in the car because it's easier than me lugging it in and out everyday, but I guess it was too big for them to carry LOL
The only other semi valuable thing I have in there is my police detector, and they left that so I guess they wanted GPS, IPod or money.
I also have a motion detector, so either it didn't go on which is hard to believe since the wind makes it go on, or they just didn't care.
I will have to check if I can set the alarm whether my car is locked or unlocked, the funny thing is that I ALWAYS lock the doors, and this one time I didn't it happened, unless they had tried before and just got lucky with it being unlocked this time.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
DH's car was broken into today at the train station. He was a 1995 Camry... The car is practically multi colored and is missing handles. They smashed his window. The same window they smashed 6 months ago when they broke in. Last time they stole his GPS and ipad holder. Today they stole the entire radio but were nice enough to leave the CD that was inside. They shut off his alarm. It will cost us the 500 deductible. I just don't understand people

I had that done too but they put my wheels up on cinder blocks. We have an idea of who did that too though.

Re: Make Sure you lock your cars
last month i was running around and thought i locked my car ...next morn i went into my car and stuff was everywhere some one went around the night before checking door handles and while m y car was in my driveway stole my gps money i used for the laundry mat , good luck money i had and some other irreplaceable items that i got from my dad that the ******* prob just tossed when he ran off . Last week i heard from my neighbor that her son left his car unlocked ( he forgot to lock it also i guess ) and his gps was stolen ..no other damage was done to either of our cars....i must say after you hit one house one month you go and hit another not only in the same town but right next door...ballsy lil mf's .....i swear i wanna just set these a holes up and leave my door unlocked and catch them in the act ...shoot them in the *** so everytime they sit they will remember the houses they hit in lindenhurst :) ...of course with my luck the sob will end up prob suing me for shooting him even though he was robbing me lol. Its getting really scary lately ...i wont evebn shop after the sun goes down cause of crazy people out and about

This is not meant to knock anyone who has been robbed at all but I don't understand, why would you leave valuables in your car instead of bringing them with you (into your office or home)?
I left my stuff locked in my car at the gym b/c there are signs up all over the gym that people break into lockers
I was coming straight from work and saw this as the better choice
it's a crap shoot
I learned my lesson but now that I am properly insured I wont care as much if it happens again
up until this day I left my bag locked and hidden in my alarmed and tinted car on a daily basis- it's annoying to have to bring it in with me when I run into starbucks-

I'm sure they will if they really want something...but its much easier and quieter to open an unlocked door!
When my car was broken into they somehow pushed down my passenger side window and got in the car that way.
ETA I never left anything of value in the car, they just made a mess. The other tenants were not so lucky.
