making baby food...is it easier & cheaper?

I am going to try and make DD's baby food.

I plan on buying organic fruits and veggies.

do you think it is cheaper to make baby food?

Do you think it is easier than buying all those little jars?? i'm already sick of constantly having to go to the store for diapers or formula!

Easier: yes, it is easy just more time consuming.

Cheaper: yes, a lot more.

I don't know that it is cheaper, I never did it. But you can get a lot of baby food on sale...and I think organic fruits and veggies are expensive. JMO.

I never bought jars, so I am not sure if it is indeed cheaper. But I found it to be really inexpensive. I did mostly organic fruits and veggies and I have to tell you a few pieces of fruit etc... pureed goes a long way. Good luck!

Re: making baby food...is it easier & cheaper?

I found it super easy and super cheap! I made big batches at a time and froze a lot. I would basically just set aside some time to steam and puree and it didn't take long at all.

Re: making baby food...is it easier & cheaper?

I just made a sweet potato for DD tonight and got at least 2 servings out of it. One potato can't cost more than $1.14+, which is what it would cost for the Gerber 2 pack. I think it is cheaper. It defnitely is more time consuming and requires more planning. I plan to make some stuff and buy others. It also also DD to be exposed to more veggies/fruits because there are so many more options out there than what is jarred.

I did the math for applesauce once and it was NOT cheaper at all. Especially if you tack on the time it takes! Butternut squash on the other hand, did turn out MUCH cheaper. Those are the only two I calculated!

I guess it just depends on what your making, kwim?

I think it cost about the same...especially if your'e doing organic.
And while the act of making baby food is simple...finding the time to do it was difficuly while working full-time for me. It caused me a TON of stress, and I don't stress! But my baby is also a picky eater, so I would waste a lot.
Jars were MUCH easier in my opinion!

I've been making Rylans baby food. It is so easy and IMO it doesn't take long at all. I can't say if it's cheaper...I haven't looked at the price of jars. So far i've made butternut squash...acorn squash...green beans and sweet potatoes.

I agree with a lot of this. The only place to get good organic near me is whole foods which is $$$ and always a zoo. I also found that I wasted alot. Also, I didn't find it to be that easy b/c I was cooking for him every other day. I found also when eating outside the house it was a pain in the a$$ - that said, it was better for him and he seemed to like it so for the most part - that is all i did! Now making his food is easier since i don't have to puree it I don't have to clean the blender Chat Icon
