Making BM (frozen) and Formula bottles - going back to work
Ok so when I go back to work I will be mixing frozen (defrosted of course) BM with formula. I would like to make them at night not in the morning. When should I be taking them out of the freezer.? It seems like it takes at least 8 hrs to defrost, but if I took them out around 4pm, they probably wouldn't be defrosted at night early enough for me to make them.
I just don't want to have one more thing to do in the AM when I go back to work. DD will probably need 3 bottles so I will be leaving out 2 bags of frozed BM.
How do you do this?

I haven't thought about this yet...
But I know the once my DH defrosted one under the hot water it went pretty fast.
I will probably end up doing it in the morning. Like making a hot water bath right when I wake up - then get ready - then put them in the bottles before I leave.

But I think once you put it under hot water it needs to be drank within an hour, that is why I am not sure

Re: Making BM (frozen) and Formula bottles - going back to work
Just my advice, long term I would not be mixing formula and breast milk in the same bottle. I did it myself when I was trying to get my son from Expressed BM to formula, but only for a week. I would worry too much long term that if the BM was off, or the formula was off it would contaminate the whole batch. Have you spoken to your ped about it?
What about doing one bottle BM, the next bottle formula? That would be safer in my eyes.

My Ped and LC actually suggested it to me.

Probably why I'm not a ped or an lc!

I know it is a PIA but IMHO I would make them first thing in the morning. I would stick the frozen BM in the fridge the night before.
OR
Do that the first day and then be sure to take out the frozen BM in the morning and then when you get home the should be defrosted and make them right before you go to bed

But with the second one, than they would only be good for 24 hours, so that would not last for her to have bottles at the babysitter all day right?
I think I will just set up the bottles at night, with the oz. of water in them for the formula all ready to go than mix in the powder and BM in the morning. I guess that is the best bet, right?

Re: Making BM (frozen) and Formula bottles - going back to work
I am not sure how the mixture would fair Can't formula last longer than 24 hours if it is refrigerated? My kids only got boob juice straight from the tap so I have no idea. BM can stay in the fridge longer than 24 hours.

You can defrost in the fridge or ina cold water bath. DH and I have been mixing defrosted formula with formula, and we have not had any problems.
Make sure that the defrosted milk is consumed within 24 hours of being defrosted. If it is not consumed in time throw it away.
If it is heated up it must be consumed right away. If it is not consumed throw it away.
Do not re-freeze any unused milk.
