We should try to hook up a biweekly or monthly play date/GTG around here (rotate houses and stuff). I would be willing to offer up my house on a weekend but it has to be after November
I feel for you ladies...I had the same experience when I went to the Parent/Teacher night at nursery school. The mothers were VERY pretentious and were not friendly at all
great idea about the playdates, count me in, but its tough to organize everyone's schedules sometimes.

Tell me about it, it seems like it's hard enough getting everyone organized for coffee!!
We'll still try though

That stinks!! I have found that many moms eyeball each other and their kids in BRU. It is like a competition thing almost......so silly! My stroller is better than yours is b*tch!! LOL
Very true. When ever I get those looks I think to myself...
Well, since you are SO obviously wealthy ( ) I hope you & your Dh are maxing out your 401K's, Roth IRA's and your DC's 529 account. I sure hope you have zero debt and live beneath your means. Most Americans are THREE missed paychecks away from bankruptcy and if you or you Dh lost your jobs I hope you have three months of living expenses saved. You know, DH and I drive used cars, but we have zero car payments. We live in a fixer upper, but we are not going nuts trying to pay an exorbitant mortgage. We could have more stuff, but I chose to work PT instead of having a $600 stroller. I don't mean to judge anyone, but when people give us looks like we are not giving Gracie the best because she has Graco stroller ($200) instead of a $600 stroller, or if we buy store brand formula, or anything else to save $$, it is ridiculous! I think that we will giving her the best gift of all...two parents who are not fighting over $$, and have her college PAID FOR, our retirement funded (so she will not have to take care of us when there is no social security for us, which I believe there will not be) and a mom who can spend all day with her four days a week.
That is what I think when I get the dirty looks as I stroll by in my $200 Graco stroller/car seat combo. I end up feeling pity on these moms and I say a little prayer for them and their DC.
well said !!! I actually feel bad for the brand-name struttin moms, because they are the dream of these companies. Ive worked behind the scenes in retail, we know it aint any better because the sticker has a higher price. anyone that needs to let the world know how much they paid for everything is quite insecure in my eyes (I need to let the world know how LITTLE I pay for everything ) To feel better about yourself based on whats on your OUTSIDE as opposed to your insides, well thats not someone Id wanna be friends with to begin with. and their poor hubbies are bustin their asses to pay for their silliness. Id rather buy stuff on sale and have my hubby home much earlier than most hubbies. my kids dont care if they have Ralph Lauren jeans on or Levis. (and mommy gets the RLs at the price of Levis anyway ) As I said in my previous post, be true to yourself and you will meet the right people who you CAN be yourself with, and thats all that matters.
TY!! I agree! I am ALL FOR getting the name brand stuff at a bargain! I do live by Woodbury Commons
eta: My dad busted his azz for YEARS working two jobs becasue of my mom's silliness. Guess what, now they are divorced. It is just not worth it. Would I love a mercedes S Class SUV?? Absolutely! BUT only after everything else is paid for and out of a surplus we would get it. I love that car, not because of the mercedes name, but because I love the car. Make sense?

dont be nervous or sad! If youre happy with who you are and love your children, you WILL be happier than the gazillionaires with $5,000 outfits on their kids. Ive worked for extremely wealthy families, who, behind closed doors, were quite miserable.very very sad. but on the outside, they "displayed" nothin but labels, brand names and how much everything costs. and they have 4 beautiful yet lonely, confused and sad children.
and as far as "the average mom" tryin to keep up with the joneses, thats even worse, because we know she's livin above her means and not being herself and truly miserable... ive known a few of them.

It's been so hard trying to make friends at the Mommy & Me classes Kev and I go to. It seems like most of the other moms already know each other from past classes.
Its so hard because they are always talking about plans for after class and the weekends and I feel like such a outsider.
Over the past few months family issues had me running all over the place and things were so hectic I really didn't mind so much but now that things are settling down I'd like Kevin to start interacting with other kids his age more than just the once a week we go to class.
I wish some of my friends had kids but right now I'm the only one.
Sorry for sounding so whiny but its just so frustrating.
that'll be me too...its hard when this happens....lots of
i'd love to get in on a playdate/gtg here once she is a little bigger!

oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that. I live in Jersey & I've joined a group called the MOMS club. We have a local group that is just my town & it's part of a national organization. It's so great! Everyone involved is there to make friends & get to know other moms in town. There are over 50 members & everyone I've met so far is very friendly and so helpful. I have a "big sister" in the group & we have a chat board and a monthly sign-up calendar for events. We have walking groups, playgroups by age, and great special events all the time. The best thing is it is only $30 per year to join, unlike many of the other programs. If you're interested in something like this, check out these websites: LI SAHM meet up group
check out all of these!

Thanks again everyone.
We are just about done redoing our basement. When its done, all are welcome for a playdate/gtg!
And if anyone wants to go walking at Belmont Lake State Park or any other nice walking areas (beaches with boardwalks...) let me know! (At least while the weather is still warm!)

I think I posted this once before. I was subbing one day, and this one kid (4th grade mind you) was looking out at the parking lot (we were all by the window) and he goes "HMM !! WOW, NOT ONE BENTLEY!" his parents taught him well.
