Out of curiosity, does your 6/7 yr old sit in a high back booster or no back booster in the car?

I have a 1st and 2nd grader and they are both in full back boosters. When they were in kindergarten, they were in 5 point harnesses.

I have a 6 year old and he sits in a high back booster. I am in no rush to put him in anything else right now. I feel like driving is so risky these days with all the distracted people behind the wheel. This keeps him the safest IMO.
eta: both my children are in high back booster WITH 5 point harness.

She is in 1st grace and turning 7 end of next month and is in a 5 pt harness
She hasn't hit the height or weight limit yet as she is small for her age.
She wont' be coming out of it until she hits the height (which she will before the weight I am sure)
So probably another year I'd say
Then she will go to a high back booster.
If you drive on LI you see the assholes on the road and to me it's important she is in the safest seat possible for as long as possible
I wish I could be in a 5 pt harness to be honest- it's safer

My kindergartner is in the high back with the 5 point harness. He's been hounding me about using a seat belt though so once I move my baby from the infant seat into a car seat, I may allow him to use the seat belt instead.

My first grader is in a high back booster. He just graduated to it when he started first grade.
He is in a backless booster though in my DH and FIL's cars (usually just to/from school).

My kindergartner is still in a five point harness booster. We will probably switch him this summer to a high back booster with latch like his older brother. He'll be a little over 6.
My 2nd grader is in the high back booster with latch. He's been in it for a year.

both of my kindergartners are in high back boosters. They'd still be in 5 pt harnesses but the seats we had they were reaching their height limit.

I'd say the majority of the kids in my daughter's preschool are in regular boosters! I've been asked a few times why I still have my DD in the convertible car seat, and she's 4.5.

Dd is still in a regular 5pt car seat, and I'll probably be keeping it like that through kindergarten.

You are not wrong. They are.
It's not rocket science and I would think it's common sense but apparently for many, it is not.

Through half of second grade, my DS was still in the 5 pt harness with high back booster. My DD is entering K in the fall and is still in the 5pt harness (regular carseat) and will be for some time to come. They both remained in the 5pt until the met the height and weight limitations and not a day sooner.

My girls are 5 and almost 7 ride in 5 point harness seats. This summer my 7 year old will go into a high back booster.

no back booster. She sits in the 3rd row and can't have a high back booster there. But she's tall and over the weight requirement

You are not wrong. They are.
It's not rocket science and I would think it's common sense but apparently for many, it is not.
yes the recommended age to be in a seat belt is no earlier than 5 simply because most children would not be mature enough for a seat belt yet.
But you should know that a booster with a seatbelt is just as safe as a harness as long as it used CORRECTLY and that is the key correctly.
Its actually recommended that a child get trained to use the booster seat with belt on short trips. They need to be able to sit properly the entire time including sleeping to use one.
Also a high back vs no back booster is no difference in safety either just the high back helps the child and seat belt be positioned correctly.
