Marble for Bath? Questions for those of you that have it.
I ordered my vanity my toilet, sink. I am obsessed with Carrara Marble and want to but it half way up the walls and in the shower surround. I know that maintenance is high and I am trying to look at look- a- like ceramic bc it is easier, but the "fake" factor to me is throwing me off. I will do ceramic floors. I have a few questions: Is it seriously high maintenance to clean? Does it look good years after? Honed or polished and why? What kind of countertop do you have for your vanity? What kind of floor? I think I am looking to talk myself out of it for some reason, but I keep getting stuck with the marble every.single.time.

I had a completely marble master bath in my first home. PITA! You have to be very careful with what you use to clean it. I think we used diluted vinegar and water. You cannot use popular bathroom cleaning products on it as marble is extremely porous and the chemicals will discolor the marble (ours was white and it some areas where my ex-h used cleaning product in the shower the marble turned yellow. You also have to have the marble buffed with a machine (we hired a company about every year to do this). As much as I love the look of a marble bathroom I would never do it again; it is too maintenance intensive.

I don't have marble for my wall tile. I have subway tile with a slate floor, but I wanted to leave a comment......
for the vanity top, you can use marble also. We have a Carrara Marble vanity top in a honed finish for our secondary bath. the cabinet is a shaker style espresso colored vanity, and over the toilet cabinet. The Vanity top we had custom made at Elegante Granite in Westbury, price was reasonablish...... more than a HD prefab but that is a given.
I definately worry about it more since it does seem poris. Right now we don't use the bath much, just for bathing my 10 month old, so there isn't much heavy use at the sink.
