Re: maternity leave
Maternity leave? What's that? I have to use up all my sick and vacation time then I can go on short term disability at 2/3 pay.
Needless to say I'll be back to work in 6 weeks TOPS!

Check with your employer but if they offer SDL you can go out for 6 weeks for a vaginal birth or 8 for a c section and get 2/3 your pay- paid for by the short term disability insurance. This is something your employer has to provide though...

Re: maternity leave
12 weeks paid and they will hold my position for another 12 weeks, so 6 months off with my position still guaranteed when I return. Then my boss is letting me telecommute 2 days a week when I return. I consider myself super lucky. Hope it all goes smoothly!

Re: maternity leave
I get:
- 12 weeks FMLA (unpaid)
- Short-term disability (which is 5 weeks paid for a vag. birth and 7 weeks for a c-section, the max I believe is $170 per week).
- After my short term dis. expires, I must use up all of my vacation, sick and personal time as specified in my job contract. (This is employer-specific and does not apply to everyone. Some employers allow you to save some time for when you come back, mine does not).

Re: maternity leave
Definitely speak to your employer. Every place is different.
I am lucky. I get 12 weeks paid leave, then I can tack on any unused vacation and sick days.
With my last DS, I ended up being able to take 4 months, all paid.

Re: maternity leave
I get 6 weeks paid maternity leave (8 weeks for a c-section) and then I can use my 4 weeks of vacation time for the rest. I'm taking 8 weeks no work and then 4 weeks half days.

Re: maternity leave
Because I am having twins I go out 2 months before my due date-paid, and if C section I get 8 weeks, 6 weeks if vaginal birth also paid and then if I have time on the books, which I do, a total of 21 weeks I can take that off- also paid.
My job offers me to take two years off unpaid w/o health benefits and still return to my position.
I will still be able to retire in 2019, no disruption of time served.

Re: maternity leave
I get the 12 weeks FMLA;
Week 1: sick days Week 2-6: STD (4 weeks- 100% pay; 1 weeks- 60% pay) Week 7-8: sick days (I have 17 accrued) week 8-11: vacation days week 12: no pay
I'll take no pay for the last week, because I'm already going negative 5 days on my vacation accrual. Once I catch up on my accrual, I'll have 6 vacation days and 2 personal days that I can use throughout the rest of the year.

Re: maternity leave
They hold my job for one year, unpaid.
I have to use my sick and vacation time. I will probably use 40 days of vacation time and 20 days of sick time to take off three months.
But no worries because that will still leave me with about 10 vacation days and 28 sick days when I get back. LOL

Re: maternity leave
My job pays me my full salary while on my 6/8 weeks of disability and I get 2 weeks official maternity leave.
My boss owes me 2-3 weeks of vacation time for all the traveling I did in 08/09 so I'm cashing that time in. After all that is used up I'll probably use a little vacation time.
When I'm back the first month I'll be in 3 days and work from home the other 2 days. Once the kid is 6 months old I'll work 4 days in and one day from home going forward.

Re: maternity leave
I am lucky- my company has a great maternity policy. I get 16 weeks paid, plus I have my 4 weeks vacation. I don't think I am going to tack my vacation on, but I will use it a week at a time when I get back. I am due 4/30, so I will get the summer off, paid- provided I don't get laid off

Re: maternity leave
I get 6 weeks unpaid but I have a Short Term Disability policy through Aflac so I will get 2/3 pay for 5 weeks for vaginal or 7 weeks for C-section.
I also plan to take an additional 6 week unpaid leave of absence from work after that, I want to stay home with the baby as long as I can.
