Re: maternity leave
I'll get paid my full salary for the first 8 weeks, I have the option to take an additional 8 weeks unpaid. I'm not sure how much time I'm actually taking, it depends on how much money we save from now until then. I also get 6 weeks of paid time off annually and that begins in January, I'm not sure when I am taking any of that yet.

Re: maternity leave
I'm taking off 9 months. I'll go back to work in September.
Gotta love the NYC school system, though: I get paid for any accumulated sick days (which is about 5.5 weeks ). I lose my health insurance after 12 weeks (but we'll be covered under DH). It'll be VERY tight, but I couldn't imagine balancing work and a newborn. I'm impressed with you ladies that can!!

Re: maternity leave
I get 6 weeks off, 8 weeks, if its a csection and that's at 70% of my salary. They will use up my sick time first, which I have 2 weeks of, and then I can opt to use vacation time at the end of the maternity leave, which I may use 2-3 weeks. So I hope to be home for at least 2.5 months.

Re: maternity leave
As of now, I am taking off 16 weeks. 12 of those weeks are paid maternity leave and 4 weeks will be vacation/sick time. I'm actually on a fiscal year that starts 5/1 and I am due 3/30 so it works out really well because I will use my vacation/sick time first and then my maternity leave. When I come back, it will be a new fiscal year and I will still have all my vacation time for that year.

Re: maternity leave
I am a VP in a bank and have been here over 8 years...
I get short term disability (6 weeks vag/8 weeks c-section) at 80% pay.
remaining 6 weeks/4 weeks would be unpaid under FMLA, but I have accrued time and can use unaccrued time.
My boss worked something out with me (he rocks, totally his idea) - after 8 weeks I am working 2 days only from home and coming back after 4 months total. when I get back FT i will be in the office 4 days/home 1 day. I am so excited!

Re: maternity leave
I think 12 weeks for now - it depends - I have to be out till my mom is done teaching for the school year - so if I go out before I am due, then I will be out longer than 12 weeks

Re: maternity leave
I am taking off 18 weeks. 2 before, 16 after. It will all be paid. After almost 7 years of 60-70 hour weeks and no overtime pay, no 401K contribution and a $700 a month insurance premium paid be me -- I finally get some good benefits!

Re: maternity leave
With my DS, my company had no maternity leave benefits so I was only entitled to the 8 weeks NYS disability (which I think was about $160 a week) and then the additional 4 weeks FMLA at no pay.
I ended up not going back. I have since started my own business so with this baby there will be no NYS disability, I plan to see how it goes. I'll probably have to decline new jobs for 2 or 3 weeks unless they are long term projects.

wow were do you girls work that you get so much time off and paid?? Thats awesome!!
i am using accrued time...in addition i reduced my salary 20% while i was pregnant to "bank" the time for later. I can then chose how i use it...ie. 3.5 months at full salary or 7 months at 1/2 salary. either way, i can take a full seven months whether i had accrued time or not. it's our policy.

I had planned to stay out 12 weeks but Dh was recently laid off so it will probably be 8 unless he finds something between now and January
