Re: Math Demo Lesson
yes, i think it is fair to e-mail the teacher and ask about the students in the class. Clearly, it is not appropriate for the teacher to give you personal info. but it is fair for you to ask the learning needs of the special ed. students so that you can plan appropriately. perhaps they need some visual aids, or a copy of the class notes, etc. etc. i think once you know al ittle bit about the class and what the teacher wants you to cover, you will feel much better.
GOOD LUCK! i don't envy you--- thank god i never had to do one of these!
ETA: Differentiation is making the lesson accessible for ALL learners. Essneitally, if you do more than lecture (add some visual aids, manipulatives, etc.) you are differntiating becaue you are teaching in mroe than one way, so all learners will have a better chance of finding a piece of your lesson that works for them. does that make sense?

Re: Math Demo Lesson
I am going to cancel the demo lesson. I just don't feel qualified for the position and feel as if I would do a horrible job.
thanks for your input donegal!

you're welcome...
but are you sure you want to cancel? it's an intervewi for a LI job and they wouldn't be asking you to come in for a demo. lesson unless you are one of the finalists for the position...they obviously like you and what you have to offer. I am sure you're nervous, but give it a shot...the worst that could happen is you don't get the job. the best is that you do get the job!

ITA!! Definitely go, if not just for the opportunity! I think the "what if" feeling would haunt me.
