Weird Question....but if you are born in the end of the year when is the cutoff for school?

and how does it work....if you are born on Dec 25th are you the youngest in your grade or the oldest? Or does it depend on what your parents want to do ie: when they enroll you in school? Wierd Question, I know but we were just talking about this at work.

I am not sure of the cut off date but my bday is december 1st. i was always the oldest in my class.

ETA: I lived in Bayside, Queens and went to second grade there. The following year we moved and i had to repeat the second grade because of something about the cut off date. Needless to say me and like 2 other people in my class were all 8 while everyone else was still 7

I'm 12/24 and was the youngest in my grade...DH and a friend of ours is 12/22 and they were the oldest in their grade. Obviously their schools had a different cut-off than mine.

I was born 12/19 and I was older than all of the kids in my grade by one year. However, my best friend who was born 12/28 went to private kindergarten and was a year older than everyone. I hated more having my birthday so close to the holidays than being older than anyone in my grade. I didn't mine having my license before my most of my friends.

each school is different. If i was a parent of a child born after nov 1 I would hold them back

i work at a school... i beleive they actually have a cutoff date thats in the fall- in september i think. so if a child turns 5 on december 25th, they wouldn't start kindergarten until the next september, about 3 months before they turn 6.
for september birthdays, i think they leave it up to the parents. my DHs birthday is september 23rd, so he turned 5 a few weeks after school started. becasue he wasn't 5 yet when school started, he had to wait until the next year when he was almost 6. so, he was always the oldest in his class.

My birthday is in mid-December and I was always the youngest in my class. I started Kindergarten when I was 4.

Totally depends on the school district, and their cutoff date.

If the cutoff date is Dec 20, then a Dec 25th child will be the oldest in the next class. If the cutoff is Dec 31, they will be the youngest.

my sister's b-day is in mid-december, and growing up in queens, the cutoff was december 30th, so when we moved to nassau, she was always the youngest in her class, because the cutoff here was december 1st

each school district is different. where i grew up, the cutoff was 12/1.

i think most districts will give you the option to hold a child back if they are going to be the youngest.

Growing up in Bellmore - the cutoff date was 12/1 - I think that is the same in many districts on LI.

Cutoff for Kindergarten registration in LI is Dec.1st.

If you are born on the 2nd, you'd be the oldest in your class- but would have to wait a year (though there are ways around it).

However, in Queens...at least 34 years ago that is, the cutoff was at the end of December.

My bday is December 2nd- I was the youngest in my class.

12/1 was the cutoff in farmingdale - so the older kids were the ones born in early december.

a teacher mentioned waiting a year to enroll me but i was already reading, writing and doing math so thank goodness my parents didnt listen!

December 1st. I was born December 22nd. I was always the oldest.

all my friends that were late babies hated that they did not get left back bc they were teh last to drive and turn 21

my bday is dec 16 and I was always the oldest...it was great because I got my drivers licence 1st!!

It depends on the cut-off at the school and the parents decision.

My birthday is in January and I was always the youngest in my grade. But that was because I was able to enter first grade earlier than others.

I was born 12/22 and was the youngest. (My friend was 12/26 and was in my grade too)

the cut off was 12/1

I was 12/10 and one of the oldest in my class which i loved

but I don't think the districts are that strict if you are in that grace period of Oct, Nov , Dec - my mom told me she would've had me start when i did even if i was an Oct or Nov baby

It seems the cutoff for Public schools on the island is 12/1. when I grew up in Flushing it was 12/31 at the catholic school I went to for Kindergarten. We moved to LI in April of my lindergarten year. My b-day is 12/10. Since I was already in Kindergarten and I only had 3 months left of school they let me in, so I was always the youngest in my class.
