Maybe a Stupid Question - Maternity Clothes

Did you go straight from your regular to maternity clothes? Or did you buy regular clothes in a larger size for an in-between step?

I have a business trip when I will be 13 weeks and I have a major presentation plus meetings with senior executives. I need to look good and feel comfortable. I'm nervous the maternity stuff will be too big at that point? I have a few things I will probably still fit in but most likely not enough for a whole week.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question - Maternity Clothes

This is a great time of year because dresses work really well! I would get a few things in a size bigger to use right now with the idea that you won't be back down to your pre-pregnancy size right away after the baby is born too, so I'd make them versatile pieces if possible. Remember: it takes 9+ months to grow a baby -- it should take at least that long to get yourself back, if not a while longer.

Maybe do some suits with structured dresses (but not tight) and jackets? I have several of those and found them very professional looking without being restrictive.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question - Maternity Clothes

I started wearing maternity clothes at 10/11 weeks. I went straight from regular clothes. Some are a little big around the belly but they are 10x more comfortable. I didn't want to have to buy clothes in a larger size and then maternity clothes later on.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question - Maternity Clothes

Last time around ( my 1st pg) it was June/Jul/Aug for my 1st tri....when I started getting uncomfortable I just wore elastic waisted shorts and baggy shirts.... by fall I was in maternity.

This time around, me belly popped almost immediately so I've been wearing/buying maternity since Week 6 or7

I used the band until I couldnt anymore and started wearing maternity pants. I fit into my pre pregnancy shirts for longer.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question - Maternity Clothes

I would not size up on Maternity wear if you're doing a presentation just because you do not want to look frumpy. If you get a maternity dress like the PP said you can wear it hopefully for the first and second trimester.

tell us how the presentation goes

this. also, JMO but i think maternity clothes are a little more flattering to the way your body changes, rather than just sizing up clothing. i wore the bella band with my jeans starting pretty early... maybe weeks 7-9 or 8-10, something like that and then went into maternity clothes. most of the maternity clothes should grow with you for quite some time.

Not a stupid question, I actually had the same one when I was at your stage. I took the advice of the ladies on here and went straight to maternity. I'm glad I did, so much more comfy and flattering! Happy shopping!

I lived in sundresses when I was pg with DD, and will this summer too.
