Medela breast pump
ok, might be a silly question....
my son is 10 days old, and I was trying to breast feed, as well as formula, after the breast, as per the hospital and pedi, b/c my son was 11lbs. 4 oz, and they said he needed the formula....
I purchased the Medela double pump... I just pumped and got about 1 1/4 oz, from 1 breast, and not even an oz. on the other.
how do I feed it to him, I put them in the storage bottles it came with (there are no nipples to attach to it.
Do I pour them into bottles when it's time to feed him? do I give one, and then at the next feeding give him the other one and then the formula bottle...
i'm alittle confused...

Re: Medela breast pump
how much is he drinking? 2 oz? my lactation nurse told me you can leave pumped milk out for 10 hours room temp before it has to be thrown out. I used to pump, put in bottle, leave on counter and when time to feed again use that AFTER I had DD try to BF. I would take turns, BF , pump each feeding. I didnt get much like you and eventually had to stop b/c I wasnt producing much milk. I even took Fenugreek and no luck.

we were told in the hospital to do 10-15 min on each breast, and then they gave us the 2oz. pre=-made bottles. So now that we are home I was doing the same thing with the breast and have been giving him about 3oz of formula as per our pediatrician, and he sucks it down.
I just wasnt sure if I pour them together or use one at a time?

Re: Medela breast pump
Oh welcome!!!!!!!!
I went through the EXACT same thing you are right now. My son was 11 pounds 8 ounces and I was BF. I supplemented formula for the first few weeks because I was pushed into it.
I also began pumping and was overwhelmed by the big bottles to pump into. I didn't understand how anybody could pump more than 2oz at a time. (Well, that changed, I go through so many bottles in one session now. He's 11 months.)
As for the Medela bottles, I bought regular nipples and screw caps from the store. Did your bottles come with the screw caps that you could put a nipple into? If so, you just need the nipples. Send someone to the store to get slow flow nipples!
If you have any questions about big babies and/or breastfeeding, please send me a forum mail. I know how difficult it is!!
