Medical emergency and no insurance question
Let's say someone is currently uninsured and has a medical emergency. What are some options that they may have when it comes to payment?

The emergency room. They can't turn you away for an emergency then they will bill you. You can negotiate (I think) for a cheaper price or be put on a payment plan. I think that's how it works

There is something like emergency Medicaid (I am not sure of the name) you have to ask at the hospital.
BUT if it turns out that this person has to go to the ER uninsured, you canusually work with the hospital in regards to the bill.
I hope everything is ok

Most hospitals have charity care or financial assistance. You usually apply after you get a bill. I know Stony Brook will waive up to 95% of the bill depending on your financial circumstances.
